Question on Rolex 114270
Hello Rolex WatchPros!
I am hunting for a Explorer 114270 (the one right before the current 214270... I prefer the 36mm over the 39mm), and seeking some advice.
- I understand this reference was in production roughly 2001-2010. Was there any variation throughout this time, or were they all exactly the same?
- Did they ever have the ROLEXROLEXROLEXROLEX inscription on the inside of the bezel wall?
- Case front/back brushed, flanks polished. Bracelet sides are polished, rest all brushed. Is this correct?
- Any particular points to look out for in pre-owned? E.g. perhaps a certain part gets worn out more than usual
- Finally, is there any chance in the world I could find one new from an AD perhaps collecting dust in the back storage? I asked my local AD who says not a chance.

I almost went with the 114270 as it’s a beautiful watch..
..and I think 36mm is perfect. However I also wanted to own a more modern Rolex as I’ve never done so before, however I don’t like the 39mm Explorer. I ended up going with the 116000 and have been very pleased with my choice so far. ...
