Pre Vendome

First forgive me if these questions are elementary - I have tried to do some research on this through the web but really have not found any satisfactory answers.

1) Pre Vendome Models - ok these are models that were made when Panerai were "re-introduced" before the purchase by Vendome in 96/97 time frame.

So are these watches - more or less desirable than the ones manufactured under Vendome ownership? Are there differences in the way they were manufactured - if so can you outline these for me.

Also the boxes appear to also be made of a different wood - assume oak than the current models.

Are there more differences? If so could you give me an outline.

If I was considering a purchase of one - what things should I consider? I believe that most if not all of them are mechanical winding mechanisms.
