Oh Wait, One More Thing...
I bagged the Tissot for half of what I had budgeted, so I decided to jump on another piece:
Oh yeah, that one. I talked the shop down $150, enough to cover the cost to replace the hands. I was assured that the movement had been completely stripped down, cleaned, and oiled. I got a 24-hour grace period to return it (so I could have my watch repairer to give it a look-see), so it seemed a safe risk. My ever-skeptical watch repairer gave it the green light, it does appear to be in very good shape with only minor evidence of interior oxidation—my primary concern given the hands. Oh, and it is indeed a 145.022 from the ubiquitous 1969 batch. As my watch repairer noted, anyone can buy the right caseback and even the right dial, but I feel reasonably confident that this is the Real Deal, not a bitsa. Daniel now owns a true Speedmaster!
I am still up in the air about the bracelet. The end links have "47" stamped on them. I think they are incorrect for the case and bracelet. Any input?
I think the clasp may have been grafted to the bracelet as well. It looks and works well, but it isn't what I would expect.
It wears well and everything works, so I will not complain. It is nice to finally be in the club!
