Ok, as a newbie I have a stupid question. I just purchaed the 243. On the back it says L310/500. Is that 500 per year? Or is that 500 total made. Just asking.

It stands for 500 pieces for that specific year
Since the PAM243 is a regular production model, there will be a M-series next year of usually 500 pieces or slightly more. So next year's PAM243 will have a M XXX/500 designation, assuming Panerai does not discontinue the PAM243 and production # is still ...
