Chopard

LUC 2000

I know nothing about Chopard. I am a watch nut, though. I have 2 Rolexes, 1 old "Daytona" that I purchased new in 1972 and one newer "Date". But I have an opportunity to purchase an LUC 2000. It is marked as No. 900. In fact, the case is cast with this number. I have noticed that other LUC 2000's come with different numbers cast on the back. Does Chopard actually re-cast each case with a new number? If so, that is amazing. It looks like a very high-quality timepiece and movement. However, I am hesitant, for a number of reasons. First, I have no idea of the long-term value prospects for this watch. Is it worth buying as an investment or not? If it is a good investment, what makes it such? Second, what is the actual quality and durability of this watch? Does it need repair, and if so, where would a guy in Vancouver, Canada get it repaired? Is it actually waterproof? I am a bit sceptical of this, because of the case construction methods. Third, it does not come with the box and papers. I understand that Chopard went all the way with this aspect of the timepiece, and wonder what not having such would do to the long-term prospects of watch ownership and collectibility. Fourth, how is Chopard perceived in the general timepiece market? I understand Chopard is said to rank in the pantheon of Swiss "Haut-Horlogerie" but what does this really mean? How does it actually compare to Patek or Audemars?

Any help or information would be much appreciated.
