Stumbled across this advert, not seen this one before, has anyone else? (credit -- Skin diving history) The thing that obviously leaps out is the inverted 30, a mistake on the drawing? Or a sign they were used later than thought? This message has been edi...  

this is a nice ad. its surprising to see how much the price has increased over the years, makes you think about inflation and how complex it is thanks for sharing! regards MR

To put that in context....Mistral regulators cost about $50.... So they were about double the price of the essential item of diving - the actual SCUBA unit.

that $90 was a large some of money during that time. I meant that it was interesting to see how inflation has changed what $90 could do back then and what it can do today. For instance, the add states that a Fifty Fathoms costs $90, but today it is around... 

Please mr, any misunderstanding is purely due to my bad typing. I definitely didn't mean to suggest ingnorance or disrespect... I completely agree with your comments. Back in the early 60s, Regulators were $50ish. Compasses around $15, a mask a few dollar...

$90 in 1955 equates to $714 in 2009 dollars - not anywhere near $10k. Kind regards, B.

You're referring to the cost of a Blancpain today, not that $90 equates to $10K in today's money. My apologies for my misunderstanding. It is interesting to note that what a Blancpain (vintage type) would cost today. Kind regards, B.

but the current MSRP for a FF is around $10,000 or somthng like that. So i wasnt really calculating the actual inflation, but the changes in prices for that product. Think of it in philosophical terms, and not in pure economics (again i am not an economis...

It's different to the other ads I've seen. All the inverted 30s I've seen have a triangle on the bezel while this one shows the diamond. Also is this the earlier 3/6/9 dial with the large lumed triangles under the numerals? The other interesting thing is ...

It is interesting that the ad mentions twice that the watch was used by Navies. I also find it interesting to think that blancpain were used by Navies that early. Brian

That trumps the current 1735 claims... Given the stylised drawinq with its rather strange angles...I'd say it's artistic-licence.

I've always enjoyed vintage advertisements.....
