Kind of. Think of it more like a suspension on a car
The lugs are spring loaded so while they can conform to the wrist, the idea is more that they provide tensioned travel. When your wrist is straight, the lugs should be under slight tension but still extend out from the wrist a little which keeps the watch...

I guess, linked to your car suspensions analogy, it also contribute to limit the shocks transmitted from the wrist to the movement. Best, E.
