Charlie Chaplin's Memovox.

" From Charlie to Carmen... With love ".

Behind this strange title, I invite you to discover a superb story about Charlie Chaplin's Memovox, which JLC had the excellent idea to share with us at the SIHH.

A watch which was gifted by the Government of Vaud to Mr Chaplin on October 6th, 1953, when himself and his family decided to settle in Swizerland.

It is a 18 Kt Yellow Gold Memovox Ref 3151, as you can see on the certificate:

Here is the great story of this lovely watch, from Carmen's Chaplin own mouth:

“I love antique watches and the idea that they have a past and a story to tell. Watches from the Twenties and their retro style speak to me of an era when certain tiny watches were mainly jewellery creations. Imagining there was a mechanism as precise as a heart-beat behind these tiny dials fascinates me.

I am intrigued by the fact that they have been ticking steadily for more than a century. My grandfather’s watch particularly moves me, because he gave it to my father, Michael Chaplin, his son, when he turned 14. Then my dad gave it to my mum as proof of their love on their wedding day. It was a real good-luck charm because they have been in love now for 45 years.”

The Memovox in question, and in a few pictures:

We, watch nuts, use to say that watches are more than watches. This story is the perfect illustration of what we mean by that.

It is also good to see some brands paying a Tribute to their past, to their heritage.

Watches with stories and with History are priceless.

This Memovox is certainly one of them.

Best,

Nicolas
