July is an excellent month to have some short escapes, when you live in Paris.
At this time, the good days are back, even if with a bit of delay, to say the least, this year, but the days are also very hot.
Which is another excellent reason to enjoy the seaside, and / or the countryside.
The good thing, with Normandy, is that you have both the seaside and the countryside.
And a lot of charmful and beautiful places... Such as Arromanche, and its surroundings: Bayeux, Courseulles Asnelles, Isigny, La Pointe Du Hoc, and so on...
Less crowdy than Deauville, but farther than Deauville, from Paris, which maybe explains that, this whole part of Normandy is reminding you that 70 years ago, the place was not that enjoyable, with a lot of human sacrifices you cannot ignore, as you will see on the following pictures.
Loaded with history, an History you don't have the right to forget, but also some beautiful places I invite you to discover, now:
1/ Arromanche:
Its beach:
There is no Harbour, in Arromanche, just a big " cale " to allow the small boats to take the sea.
The " Cale ":
The landing crafts, witnesses of this heroic past, everywhere on the coasts:
Can you believe that I took exactly the same picture at almost the same place, but with a big difference: The Tide was low:
A beautiful view on the hills and the seaside at Arromanche:
The Village, now with its lovely houses:
A nice detail, this wooden stairs, which looks like a piece of scultpure:
Ming, my friend, you could have told me that you were in town!
You obviously forgot your gun:
And your car!
Two last photos of Arromanche, taken in the heights:
2/ The surroundings:
- Port En Bessin, a superb small Harbour:
- Another landing beach, but I can't remember its name, with a bunker in the background. Courseulles?
- La Pointe Du Hoc, a spectacular view on the Past, with an impressive Panoram from the top of the Hills:
- Asnelles, a superb beach the dog enjoyed a lot, as you can see:
And, cherry on the cake, the faithful Volvo P 1800 which drove us with class:
An anecdote... As I was going to park my car in Bayeux...
In what I thought to be a desert Parking place...
Here is what I saw when I came back to the Parking.
A gathering of vintage cars!
Normandy is a place to visit. So many things, places to see, friendly people, good food and drinks ( Cider, Calvados, pancakes, cheese... ), cool weather, relaxing moments.
I hope you shared with delight, even if virtually, this moment with me.
Best,
Nicolas
