Horological Meandering

After a long, hard day at work...

you are tired and just want to go home.

But not today, for I was fortunate enough to examine this remarkable timepiece after work.

It comes complete with its original box and papers.

It appears to be a plain old pocket watch, a Patek Philippe, but an ordinary one...

But wait! There is some hand-engraved lettering on the bezel...

And silence never looked so beautiful.

The inner case back.

And the masterpiece inside:

The movement is in amazing condition given it's close to a hundred years old. This watch is museum quality in all respects.

How did it sound? The pace of the chimes was a bit hurried, the watch is probably due for a service, but the tone and clarity were outstanding. Pocket watches tend to sound better than wristwatches, but this pocket watch sounded better than all the other pocket watches I've heard.

In an age where a rusty watch that doesn't even tell the time is sold proudly, this watch is a reminder that some timepieces are truly masterpieces.
