Rolex

A faithful servant who have passed away............

I talk about the only white non chronograph Rolex sport watch.

This one have a special feeling at my heart, it´s the first brand new Rolex I´ve buy. I still remember that
day the mailman deliver it to me, I was like a kid on christmas eve when I got the package. I was at my work
and I have my hands full of dirt and oil and I was so excited and want to open it as soon the mailman have
left it in my hands. But someone up there told me "Jocke you have to clean you up, it´s a new watch inside that
package". So I have to use everything in the house to get some nice hands so soon as possible.

After the cleaning I just open the box and then time stands still for a few minutes. I just sitting there and looking
at it and don´t touch it. There is was in my hands and it was mine and it looks like this.

Isn´t it nice or what? This was 2000 and now it's out of production since a few years back.

It´s a Explorer II ref 16570, A serial the last ones without the SEL bracelet. Sapphire crystal and water proof to 100 meters. The case is 40 mm without crown.

Ok we start with the dial, it´s really white not like the first ivory dials. The letters are real black and in my
opinion Rolex made great and detailed dials.

But the hands are a different story. They don´t use too much paint on them and they only paint that you can see
at the white gold hands. But it´s hard to see with a naked eye so it dosen´t bother me too much, but I have notice it.

The dial it´s fitted with Luminova and it glows great, but
unfortunately not so long time in the dark.

The bezel is fixed and in SS with a special surface, some call it a scratch magnet and in that case I have to disagree.
The numbers are milled down at the bezel and painted in black.

One thing I don´t like is the TvinLock crown, it´s too small when the case have crowngards. It´s hard to get when you
should adjust the watch and a little tricky to screw. In my opinion it should be a Triplock crown when there is crown guards.

The Explorer II only have the classic Oyster bracelet and it works well. The clasp calls OysterLock and it´s a little thinner
and shorter than the FlipLock clasp and it have not the diver extension link.

The movement are cal 3185.

And it a double timezones movement with 4 hands. It´s a 31 jewels hack movement who runs at 28800 bps.
It have the quickset function but it don´t works like the others, it have to be adjusted with the jump hour hand.
And it work like one turn at the crown will move the hour hand 6 hours. You can set the 4th hand independently
with the minute hand to choose that timezone you need.

Here we go for some movement pics.

And the MicroStella screws where you adjust the movement.

And finally a few more pics of a great watch.

I hope you have enjoyed the tour.
