Is anyone beside me bothered a bit by the dial of the 5146?
For a long time I have been a fan of the annual calendar complication, especially with PR and MP. And I think a 39 mm case diameter is a perfect size. But to get from the 37 mm of the 5036/5056, Patek stretched the outer dial and left the central day, month, and moonphase dials in the same place. The balance of the placement of these sub-dials relative to the overall diameter looks great on the 5036/5056 IMO (probably because this movement was designed with a 37 mm case in mind). But this configuration looks too crammed toward the center to me in the 5146. So in my mind, it's a trade off--a bigger case, but at the expense of the balance of the dial.
Adding some discomfort for me with the design of the 5146 is the "12, 3, 9" hour markers and the "+/-" power reserve indicator. In combination with the above, this all seems like too much of a stretch to give it a more modern look and size. I think the new 5146P with the baton markers only looks much better.
