n0wjsti offers WatchProSite readers an exclusive hands-on look at the Urwerk UR-120 'Spock,' fresh from an event with co-founder Felix Baumgartner. This article provides crucial first impressions of Urwerk's latest satellite display timepiece, directly comparing its wearability to its predecessor, the UR-110. Collectors interested in independent haute horlogerie will find n0wjsti's detailed observations invaluable for understanding the evolution of Urwerk's design philosophy.

A fun night out with Urwerk and The Hourglass last night, catching up with friends. Felix Baumgartner (or one half of Urwerk) was also here to walk us through their latest watch, the UR-120 Spock.

A friend who sat next to me had his UR-110 on; 10 years old and the "father figure" to the UR-120. It is unapologetically massive, and a sight on the wrist!

Naturally, the watch was popular with the audience and since it was slowly making its rounds, some of us gathered at a corner to geek out. Um, after we had finished our mains of course. Can you identify all the watches?

And finally, the UR-120 has reached our hands! The UR-120 feels much more comfortable and wearable than the UR-110, thanks in part to the spring loaded lugs at 6 o'clock that wraps around the wrist. 47mm width and 44mm lug-to-lug, with a 15.8mm case thickness. I admit, it is quite nice.

Oh, and if you were wondering what Felix had on his wrist... it was the UR-101 ;-)

Unfortunately I do not know how to upload vidoes here; but I do hope you enjoy the pics!

About the Urwerk Ref. UR-110

The UR-110, known as the "Torpedo," represents a significant evolution in Urwerk's satellite time display architecture. It departs from the earlier UR-200 series by introducing a new configuration where the three rotating hour satellites are mounted on planetary gears, which in turn orbit a central carousel. This design allows the hour indicators to remain parallel to each other as they traverse the minute track on the right side of the case, offering a distinct visual and mechanical interpretation of time. The model is characterized by its asymmetrical case and the prominent minute track.

The watch features a mechanical self-winding movement, the UR-9.01, which provides a substantial power reserve. The case is typically constructed from a combination of materials, often titanium for the main body with a contrasting bezel material. The crystal is sapphire, providing durability and clarity for viewing the complex display. The case dimensions are notable for their presence on the wrist, reflecting the brand's design philosophy.

For collectors, the UR-110 is a key reference that showcases Urwerk's commitment to unconventional timekeeping and advanced mechanical engineering. It appeals to those interested in horological innovation and a departure from traditional watchmaking aesthetics. The model has been produced in various material combinations and finishes, each offering a unique character within the UR-110 series, solidifying its place as a distinctive piece in contemporary independent watchmaking.

But I definitely prefer the 110 case aesthetics over the 120.

This 120 looks to be a lot more versatile/wearable compared to the 110. But the 110 has an unapologetically strong and confident presence that leaves you wondering whether it’s a watch or an intergalactic weapon from Stark labs. 😎 Would love to have either, but timing and funds aren’t cooperating. Thanks for sharing these great pics.

Certain there would be a table shot. Maybe see a 120 in the metal, someday...
