Actually, it is not surprising.  Lange opened its first overseas boutique in Tokyo in 97, FPJ opened opened its first boutique in Tokyo.  And now Moritz Grossmann opened its first overseas boutique in Tokyo.  There must be the same reason.

Anyway, having been lazy almost a year and I visited the boutique for the first time the last weekend.  It is not in Ginza - the usual suspect place where tens of watch boutiques are located - but in Myogadani, about 15min subway ride from Ginza via Marunouchi Line.  Those who frequent Tokyo should venture out to this place.  Highly recommended.

The occasion was an event where a well known watch collector/ blogger organized the gathering of the watch nuts and the boutique opened despite it was Sunday only for us to show us everything and tell us everything about the brand.  It was really entertaining and educating.  I was soooo wrong expecting so little.  The brand is really doing many great things and the line-up is "getting there".  I DO hope to visit the boutique soon again and might find something of my liking.

It's really a good season now in Japan with cherry blossom is blooming day by day.

And here it is the Boutique - it is not Ginza or Shibuya or Shinjuku.  This is Myogadani, about 15 min. subway ride from those touristic places.  Basically, residential area.

Ex-printer factory.  High ceiling and interior is very impressive.

The interior decoration is also my liking.  Those speakers are from Germany, of course.  Musikelectronic Geithain from Leipzig, active monitor speaker.  Just wow....  And the things below the right speakers are mixer and CD player by Studer!!!!  In front of it is Studer open reel!!!  I was already about to faint at this point....

We will talk a lot about watches later.

And this is what Grossmann Japan purchased from the previous owner as a symbol of the "Germany" connection - the printing machine made in Germany, by Heidelberg.

And here is the CEO of Moritz Grossmann Japan, Mr. Koichi Kudo.  He has seen and involved in the first Lange boutique open.  Really looooong career in loving German watches.

Benu with Power Reserve in Pt case.

Here is the Sales Director, Mr. Ko Takahashi.  He will explain the history and watches of Moritz Grossmann for hours.

Next section is about a bit of Moritz Grossmann history and today's brand as well as the watches + some pics from the Basel.

Please read on!

1. Moritz Grossmann, the man and the brand

It is time to study a bit about Mr. Moritz Grossmann himself. Sales Director, Takahashi-san explains. The photo is of the city of Dresden. And this is today's Moritz Grossmann Factory in Glashutte. It is said that there are FOUR distinguished watchmakers who made Glashutte, well Glashutte - Mr. Adolf Lange, Mr. Julius Assman, Mr. Moritz Grossmann, and Mr. Adolf Schneider (no photo found). Mr. Karl Moritz Grossmann was born in 27 March, 1826 as the first of 5 siblings. His father was the postal w

2. Benu, Atum, Tefnut, and evolution

In 2008, the new Moritz Grossmann was established. 2010, the first model - BENU - was introduced. 41mm, but not as big as it sounds on the wrist (see the same case Atum below) Rose gold version was LE of 100. White Gold version was LE of 50 And PT version was LE of 25 AND the dial was cold enamel, just like Simplicity roman numeral dial. And here is Atum, introduced in 2013. Dark Gray dial is the regular catalog model. 41mm. See the small pusher below the crown? That is the super mechanism. When

Very interesting Regulator dial arrangement, with scale using the tail of the hand

It took me a moment to realize they had swapped it up there in exchange for the space occupied by the tourbillon at 6 o'clock. I like the very narrow bezel in the first watches you showed, with Arabic numerals. It makes the dial seem very clean and uncluttered, without the watch appearing too large. Cheers, Cazalea

Yes, the use of the minute hand tail to show the minute hidden by the tourbillon window is very unique...

.. and BENU is something you must see to appreciate. Very clean and I can't believe it is 41mm!
