Diracpoint addresses the widespread concern regarding the wearability of the Rolex Deepsea Challenge, a watch often perceived as excessively large. Through personal experience and direct comparison, diracpoint challenges preconceived notions about its size and weight, advocating for a hands-on trial before judgment. This article synthesizes community reactions, offering diverse perspectives on this polarizing reference.
Today we got 3.5 links removed from the bracelet, and it’s so, so comfortable, it was hard to give it back!
My friend has a 2008 Mk I DSSD, and he likes it better than his!!!!
About the weight, get this … Full DSC with ALL the links weighs ***LESS*** than the standard DSSD with a few links removed!!!!
I have a small wrist, so I had doubts about this watch as well.
So again, if you can, try to get the watch sized and fitted for YOUR wrist and see for yourself before you reach any conclusion. You may be pleasantly surprised!!!
I don’t have the full possession of the watch yet, but when I do, I’m going to wear the heck out of it!!!! It looks EXACTLY how a big bad@$$ mega-diver should look like and is supremely, supremely comfortable!!!
That’s the update for today!!!
The Sea-Dweller reference 116600 marked the return of the 40mm case size for the model, a dimension that had been absent from the Sea-Dweller lineup for some time. This reference reintroduced several classic Sea-Dweller design elements, distinguishing it from its larger contemporary, the Sea-Dweller 4000. It was produced for a relatively short period, making it a notable transitional model within the brand's professional tool watch offerings.
This reference features a stainless steel case measuring 40mm in diameter and 15.3mm in thickness. It is equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel made of black ceramic with a 60-minute graduation. The watch is powered by the automatic caliber 3135, offering a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. A sapphire crystal protects the black dial, which includes a date complication without the cyclops lens, a characteristic feature of the Sea-Dweller line.
Appealing to collectors who appreciate traditional proportions and the technical capabilities of a professional dive watch, the 116600 is recognized for its blend of heritage design and modern materials. Its limited production run contributes to its appeal among enthusiasts seeking a Sea-Dweller with a more classic case size and specific aesthetic details, such as the matte-like black dial and the absence of the cyclops over the date.
The pics kind of remind me of when holdemchamp takes a wrist shot on one of his cats 🙂
Looks like a clock and it is incredibly large from the shots. Weight is not the matter but the size is. One can definitely dive with it, but the volume of it will be cumbersome, especially when putting on and off the BCD. Manufacturers must understand that even divers need a uncumbersome tool, even when weight is out of the equation. Nice post and thanks for sharing the picture for our reference.
Correct me if I’m wrong but the first two versions were never actually worn by humans. Hard to categorize it as a “tool watch” then. The watches dimensions were decided without consideration of human wearability.
You know, when Nike created the Breaking 2h marathon shoe, they designed it with Eluid Kipchonge and he actually wore it to attempt the record. The shoe was over-engineered but fit for purpose, and still wearable on a daily basis. I bought that shoe and it is very comfy but one definitely knows it is engineered for forward motion, with the stability as a compromise for swiftness. Now, contrasting this with Rolex. It seems they made an over-engineered piece, yes. But it has no consideration towar
I'm just sharing my experience, which has been quite pleasant with this watch. As always, people can, and should decide for themselves! 😊
It could be a fashion thing over past years, people could wear those 48,9mm ROO and panerai like a boss. For me i think it is not necessary to categorize oneself into a small watch or big watch guy, just strap the one on your wrist according which makes you happy at that momemt 🥃
