For longer than I can remember I have always wanted a Cosmograph Daytona. I have until recently been a Panerai man and still have one in my collection.
However it was and always will be a steel white dial Daytona that I was after. Having spent a little time last year in Australia and Hong Kong, I found they are as hard to come by overseas as they are in the UK. However my patience was rewarded and after being on the waiting list for a few months,I was able to purchase a 116520 from my Rolex AD here in Leeds,UK.
Having had it on my wrist as my work watch for the last couple of months, I have to say it is everything I hoped it would be - very stylish and works well with a suit and just looks great (sorry but I can't think of a better way to describe it!!)
This is the culmination of a long held dream and I just wanted to share it with you guys on the forum.
Thank you Rolex! and a couple of pics.
Regards to everyone, Patrick
The Daytona reference 116520 represents a significant evolution within the Cosmograph Daytona line, being the first to feature Rolex's in-house developed chronograph movement. This reference marked a departure from previous models that utilized outsourced calibers, establishing a new benchmark for the brand's commitment to vertical integration and precision engineering in its sports watch offerings. It maintained the classic Daytona aesthetic while introducing subtle refinements.
The watch is presented in a 40mm Oystersteel case, featuring a fixed tachymeter bezel also crafted from Oystersteel. Powering the timepiece is the automatic Caliber 4130, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement known for its robust construction and a substantial power reserve of 72 hours. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the watch is water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters, ensuring durability and functionality.
Appealing to collectors interested in the technical advancements of Rolex, the 116520 is recognized for its role in the brand's history of movement development. It is available with either a white or black dial, both featuring contrasting sub-dials that enhance legibility and visual interest. The reference was produced for a considerable period, making it a recognizable and sought-after model for those appreciating the blend of traditional design with modern horological innovation.
Enjoy in best of health!
Sometimes I feel that we do not fully appreciate Daytona because modern Rolex is such a common watch. Still, Daytona has everything one can expect from an automatic chronograph and taking into account what it is, Daytona is also relatively competitively priced. Best, Kari
I was also very grateful to any manufacturer when I purchased my watches. The money spent for them did not mean anything in those moments. It is amazing what emotions these watches do create. Congratulations to your dream watch. Best Moritz
The Daytona certainly has an allure of its own. No matter how many watches you have, Daytona is one of those that feels like an old friend. Congratulations, my friend and welcome to Club Daytona! ...and my 116520 says "hello" to its younger sibling
I also recently bought a black Daytona (few weeks ago) - also from Leeds! I\'ve been wearing it Mon - Fri at work and my Patek at the weekend. I think it\'s a great daily wear.
... excitement and joy you transmit through your words. You have good motifs to be happy with this most charming and fine timepiece. I own the same model and dial color and also love it, in spite that under certain light conditions the reading of time is not so good as with the black dial, at least for my old eyes. The watch is fantastic anyway and makes me smile every time I wear it on my wrist. One of my favorite watches for sure. I wish you will keep loving and enjoying it so much and in good
