Miles_151, a long-time collector, shares his enduring passion for blue-dialed watches, a journey that began with the Rolex Submariner and evolved to include other iconic timepieces. His post delves into the emotional connection he has with these watches, particularly how their vibrant blue hues evoke feelings of summer amidst the UK's grey winters. This article explores Miles_151's personal collection and the community's shared appreciation for this distinctive aesthetic.

I always wanted a blue dial submariner. I loved the bi metal submariner at first but then as the years went on I found myself drawn to the solid gold transitional model 16808 with its vintage style Nipple dial.
Ever since those days I have been a sucker for a nice blue dial. I apologise for the Patek which sneaks into my blue dial lineup but make no apologies for the watch.
Rolex and Tudor blue dials just make me think of the summer and shorts and flip flops which help me through the dark grey UK winter months
I know a few here share my love of a blue dial.
Happy Wednesday all from Dull UK.

About the Rolex Rolex 16808 Ref. 16808

The Rolex Submariner Date reference 16808 represents a significant evolution within the Submariner line, marking the transition from acrylic to sapphire crystals and the introduction of the quickset date function. This reference is distinguished by its full 18k yellow gold construction, offering a luxurious interpretation of the classic dive watch. It was produced concurrently with its steel and two-tone counterparts, providing a premium option for collectors seeking a robust yet opulent tool watch.

This reference features a 40mm Oyster case crafted from 18k yellow gold, paired with a matching 18k yellow gold Oyster bracelet. It is powered by the automatic Caliber 3035, which provides a power reserve of 42 hours and incorporates the quickset date complication. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal, enhancing its durability and water resistance to 300 meters. The unidirectional rotating bezel is equipped with a black aluminum insert.

For collectors, the 16808 is notable as an early sapphire crystal Submariner in full gold, bridging the gap between earlier vintage references and more modern iterations. Its production period, primarily in the mid-1980s, places it within a transitional era for Rolex. The combination of its precious metal construction and technical advancements makes it a desirable piece for those appreciating both the heritage and the functional improvements of the Submariner line.

The Daytona platinum, this is funny... I hated it when I saw the first official photos, then I totally changed my mind when I saw it in real... As for the 5070P, well, it was love at first sight, but never could grab it when it was for sale. Lucky you. Great collection, my friend. Best, Nicolas

For different occasions but all have the blue dial in common. Thank you. M.
