AndrewD captures key moments from Peter Speake-Marin's presentation at IGOTT2, offering a concise look into the independent watchmaker's philosophy and creations. This article highlights Speake-Marin's journey from antique repair to crafting unique timepieces, emphasizing his distinctive design elements and innovative complications.

[In this series of vignettes I will highlight a few of the key points that the independent watchmakers made during their presentations on Day 3 (June 1) of the IGOTT. Some are direct quotes, and others give you an insight into the presentation.]

Peter Speake-Marin at the Independents exhibition ...

Between 1996-2000 worked for Renaud et Papi and made his own watch after-hours: a pocket watch with a 1-minute Tourbillon. Peter used the knowledge he had gained working for 7 years in an antique repair shop in London. He then translated these ideas into a wristwatch.

The case is shaped like a drum and takes its cues from many different periods.

The heart motif on the hour hand reflects Peter's love of watchmaking.

The P10 watch combines the jump hour system from the new Marin 3 movement with the star decoration used on a unique Thalassa.

The stars and dots are applied using a new technique (developed in Geneva) that gives them a 3D appearance.

The P10 case is in polished titanium with RG crown and lugs.

These two watches (10% of the total production) were handed across to me by the owners during Peter’s presentation. So instead of a photo of Peter on stage, you get these two beauties. I’m sure you don’t mind … Andrew

This is how the Mega-Table-Shot started after the last evening meal. Several PSM owners placed their watches down for a group photo, and then this exploded with everyone else getting into the action. The lighting was atrocious, but you get the idea … Andrew
