In a delightful twist of fate, holdemchamp1225 shares his journey from helping a friend acquire a Patek Philippe 5170P to unexpectedly adding two to his own collection. This post highlights the irresistible charm of the 5170P, particularly its 39mm size and stunning blue gradient dial with discreet baguette diamonds, which captivated even a self-professed 5070 enthusiast. His experience underscores the watch's appeal and its perfect fit for various wrist sizes.

I know many here on WPS prefer the 5070 series over the 5170 series, including myself.

But after being asked to find a 5170P for a friend and spending an extended period of time with one on my wrist, I have to say the 39mm size is pretty much perfect, especially for wrists under 7" (~ 17 - 17.5cm).

So what to do. Easy solution, get 2 of them and problem solved 🀣😜.

Luckily I found 2 from fellow collectors and these will remain within the collector community 😁

The baguettes are super discreet but give a little extra punch to the beautiful blue gradient dial. Tough to capture in photos as the gradient effect is stunning.

And of course, it is Yokozuna approved 😜

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5070

The Patek Philippe reference 5070, part of the Complications collection, marked a significant return for the brand to large-format chronographs. Introduced in 1998, it was the first non-perpetual calendar chronograph produced by Patek Philippe since the reference 1463, which ceased production in the early 1960s. Its design drew inspiration from a unique Patek Philippe aviator's watch from the 1940s, characterized by its prominent case and dial layout, yet reinterpreted for a contemporary audience. This reference established a new aesthetic direction for the brand's chronographs, moving towards more substantial case dimensions.

The watch features a 42mm case, initially offered in 18k yellow gold, housing the manual-winding Caliber CH 27-70. This movement, based on a Nouvelle LΓ©mania Γ©bauche, was extensively finished and modified by Patek Philippe, meeting the brand's stringent quality standards. It provides a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. The dial, in this specific configuration, is black, protected by a sapphire crystal, and the watch is water-resistant to 30 meters. The fixed bezel frames the dial, and the watch is typically fitted with a leather strap.

Reference 5070 appeals to collectors interested in modern Patek Philippe chronographs that combine traditional movement architecture with a more contemporary case size. Its limited production run and the subsequent introduction of variants in other precious metals contribute to its collectibility. The reference represents a distinct period in Patek Philippe's chronograph history, bridging vintage inspirations with a new era of larger watch designs.

I'm all about community service Hussam πŸ˜‰πŸ˜œπŸ€£. Remember the post a while back with me having a chat with my banker? Now you know why 🀣🀣

Having a series of incomings is always a pleasure but obviously not a daily occurrence 😜πŸ€ͺ

I do recall the banker comment. If he approved these stellar pick-up’s, then he must been happy with the rest of the πŸ’ΌπŸ˜œπŸ’ͺ🏿

No such thing as he approving anything Hussam πŸ˜‰πŸ˜œ. I just give him instructions to carry out which needs to be done at certain times. Then it's his job as a private banker to carry out the tasks given...

Don't want to sound offensive but please remember that bankers take care of OUR money. They have ZERO say in anything we choose to do. And for anyone who has a difficult time with their banker, I suggest you IMMEDIATELY change banks and go with someone who does their job the way it should be done with the least amount of hassle possible πŸ˜‰πŸ€£

If Yokozuna approves, no wonder πŸ˜‰

And I also approve πŸ˜‰πŸ€£ it is a very beautiful watch. Just like you I like the 5070 usually better than 5170 but this iteration is mind blowing and fits you very well my friend. Well done great catch πŸ‘πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Yes indeed my dear friend and I would agree with you. Here, this particular model in PT with the gradient dial and baguettes just gives it that extra "je ne sais quoi" 😜🀣

You saw and had it on your wrist so you know what I mean 😁
