In this insightful article, jlux, a seasoned Patek Philippe collector, challenges the conventional wisdom surrounding OEM watch straps. He demonstrates how a thoughtful selection of alternative straps can refresh the aesthetic of iconic references like the 6119G, 5170G, and 5960P, proving that subtle changes can significantly enhance a watch's character while maintaining its inherent elegance. His personal journey offers valuable inspiration for collectors looking to personalize their timepieces.
Patek,as most other brands,is very conservative when it comes to OEM straps: mostly dark glossy alligator straps.
So I decided that it was time to give a bit of a different look to some of my watches.
The 6119 G from black glossy to a mat british green:

The 5170 G from black glossy to a slightly glossy grey with a very small green stitch.

With the 5960 P I stayed with dark blue but changed the leather type from glossy alligator to mat ostrich.
I am happy with the result as the watches have a fresher look while maintaining their elegance.
Thanks for looking,
Gerard
