1WatchMan seeks advice on customizing a gray strap for his Patek Philippe 5960P, aiming to achieve a perfect fit by adjusting the 12 o'clock strap length. This discussion highlights the common collector dilemma of optimizing strap comfort and aesthetics, particularly with integrated deployment systems.

I want to order a gray strap for my 5960P. It looks great on the original dark brown one, which is aging beautifully btw, but fancy a change 😊 I'm thinking of customizing the length of the strap at 12, to minimize the surplus you can see below on the current standard strap.

I like the position of the buckle on the wrist, so I wouldn't change the strap at 6. The long one shows 2cm after the the holder, which is the minimum you would recommend? I'm thinking of "cutting" 1cm or 1.5cm. Thanks!

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5960

The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5960A, introduced in stainless steel, represents a significant offering within the brand's annual calendar chronograph series. This particular reference is notable for being the first annual calendar chronograph from Patek Philippe to be offered in a non-precious metal, making it a distinctive piece in the Complications collection. It combines practical complications with a robust case material, appealing to collectors seeking a blend of utility and horological complexity.

This reference features a 40.5mm stainless steel case, housing the self-winding Caliber CH 28-520 QA 24H. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 55 hours and is visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The dial is presented in white, protected by a sapphire crystal, and the watch is water-resistant to 30 meters. The integrated stainless steel bracelet complements the case material, providing a cohesive aesthetic.

The 5960A in stainless steel holds a specific position for collectors due to its material choice and the integrated bracelet, differentiating it from its precious metal counterparts. Its combination of an annual calendar and chronograph functions, along with the 24-hour indication, makes it a highly functional and mechanically interesting timepiece. The special hand set and case back decoration mentioned for this specific 5960A further emphasize its unique attributes within the production run.

But is difficult to keep the holder in the perfect spot all the time. If I'm going to spend 500€ in a strap I would like a perfect fit šŸ˜„

But understand your annoyance with the bit sticking out. But if you move the second holder out it will keep the bit closer to the wrist and become less visible... Gray strap is amazing in any leather. Personally I like the softer kinds as it matches with my standard daily casual denim attire... here are some pics of mine on different straps: And most recently:

Your pictures are the proof that the gray combo looks stunning! The tan is also nice, but less appropriate for my daily business attires.

How a strap fits is a completely personal preference. I think yours looks fine. I too have put this watch on a dark grey strap and it works a treat. Here are a few pictures. I’m also considering a lighter grey. Look forward to seeing the result. M.

Light gray is very tempting, maybe something to consider after the dark one 😜
