I guess that everyone has a favorite when it comes to modern Patek’s : since it’s launch, mine was and is the 5960P!

I guess it is the combination of a modern dial lay-out, the nice and very wearable case and the unique combination of an automatic chrono with an annual calendar.

On top it is the first in-house developed chronograph which makes it a significant development in PP’s history.

The original version came with a superb slate dial and this was my long-time favorite even though this model was later released with other tempting dial variations in pink gold.

All this changed however when the blue dial version with a PT case came out.

This one I wanted badly for my collection !

It took me a while to “take the courage” to get this watch but when I heard that it was to be discontinued, I contacted my AD and ordered one of the probably last examples from production (especially as I am not really impressed by the latest version in steel…).

I have the watch since half a year : it performs perfectly and is still an immense  joy whenever I put it on my wrist.

Here a few pictures :

Thanks for looking,

Gerard

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5960

The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5960A, introduced in stainless steel, represents a significant offering within the brand's annual calendar chronograph series. This particular reference is notable for being the first annual calendar chronograph from Patek Philippe to be offered in a non-precious metal, making it a distinctive piece in the Complications collection. It combines practical complications with a robust case material, appealing to collectors seeking a blend of utility and horological complexity.

This reference features a 40.5mm stainless steel case, housing the self-winding Caliber CH 28-520 QA 24H. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 55 hours and is visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The dial is presented in white, protected by a sapphire crystal, and the watch is water-resistant to 30 meters. The integrated stainless steel bracelet complements the case material, providing a cohesive aesthetic.

The 5960A in stainless steel holds a specific position for collectors due to its material choice and the integrated bracelet, differentiating it from its precious metal counterparts. Its combination of an annual calendar and chronograph functions, along with the 24-hour indication, makes it a highly functional and mechanically interesting timepiece. The special hand set and case back decoration mentioned for this specific 5960A further emphasize its unique attributes within the production run.

Great choice, it is a beautiful watch and the pics really

show this. It too is one of my favourite for the same reasons and on my wish list at some stage. The watch is so practical, not too dressy and a little bit of a sport feel. A simple to read chronograph design with an annual calendar display which I think is the most legible and practical of any brand. The case size is one for all wrist types, without the need to have the wrists of a rugby player. Perfect choice and one to relish. Cheers Steve

Beautiful photography to showcase this superb watch. TFS

The transparent case back looks nothing like I have seen before on Patek's watches. It looks like its covered entirely by a piece of domed shaped crystal, or is it just the angle that give rise to the false perception. Looking forward to more wrist shots of this watch in time to come. :-) Wear it with the best of health and happiness! Cheers, Ken

I agree...

My favourite version had been the anthracite grey dial and owned one since 2007. However faced lot issues like falling chromo button and major issue with winding button as well. But that was finally ironed out by PP service team. It is an over produced series but in terms of use and practicality its a wonderful piece. Enjoy & wear it in best of health! Ovi
