Jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) celebrates the arrival of his Montblanc 1858 Tachymeter Chronograph, piece #100/100, sharing detailed photos and initial impressions. His post highlights the watch's striking blue dial, cathedral hands, vintage Montblanc logo, and the exquisite Villeret Calibre 16.29 movement.

I am pleased to share a wonderful piece of news. My Montblanc 1858 Tachymeter chronograph has arrived today!

I love the blue dial!! And those cathedral hands! The vintage Montblanc mountain logo

The lovely Montblanc Villeret Calibre 16.29.
Icing on the cake for me was to get piece #100/100 of this LE 100 timepiece.

A more luxurious black lacquered Montblanc box than the regular Montblanc watch boxes (of course the Collection Villeret still has the most luxurious box).

A drawer in the box for the manual , 500 hour test cert and the warranty. There are also 2 keys to open or lock the box.

Very cool that the 500 hour test at Le Locle is also performed on the Villeret movement 16.29

The blue dial plays with light very well

Oh yes I collected my watch during a lunch with Montblanc staff in Singapore smile

A Minerva belonging to Julien the Villleret watchmaker and my new watch. Both have the same monopusher calibre.

Montblanc wristshots! A Timewalker DLC, a Star Twin Moonphase, a Minerva and my new toy smile

Hope you like these pics. I will share more over time.

cheers
Robin

About the Montblanc 1858 Collection Ref. 1858

The Rolex Bubble Back, reference 1858, represents an early example of Rolex's self-winding waterproof wristwatches. This reference is part of the broader Bubble Back family, characterized by its distinctive domed case back designed to accommodate the thicker automatic movement of the era. It showcases Rolex's foundational efforts in developing robust and reliable automatic timepieces for everyday wear, laying groundwork for future Oyster Perpetual models.

This particular reference features an 18k white gold case, measuring 38mm in diameter. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal, protecting a silver dial. The watch is powered by an automatic movement, specifically the Boucheron 1858 caliber, offering a power reserve of 42 hours. The fixed bezel and leather strap complete the watch's classic presentation.

For collectors, the reference 1858 holds interest as an early and relatively rare iteration within the Bubble Back series, especially in white gold. Its larger case size for the period also makes it appealing to modern tastes. The presence of a date complication adds to its functionality, distinguishing it from simpler time-only Bubble Back models and highlighting Rolex's early integration of practical features.
