n0wjsti shares an exclusive week-long experience with a Greubel Forsey timepiece, offering a rare glimpse into its nuanced wearability and intricate details. His initial impressions highlight the watch's surprising comfort and understated presence, challenging preconceptions about the brand's typically larger offerings. This article delves into n0wjsti's personal observations and the community's collective insights, exploring what makes this particular Greubel Forsey reference a compelling daily wearer.
...and still trying to compile my thoughts on it.
Smallest watch they have made at just 39.6mm which means it slips under a cuff fairly easily. Doesn't get much attention from anyone, but it takes time to digest the layers of detail. Incredibly difficult to take pics of; would need lighting, set-up and image stacking. I tried my best with what little natural light I had.
To be clear, not mine; simply have it for a week on the wrist.
Key Points from the Discussion
- The Greubel Forsey S1, despite not fitting traditional preferences for larger watches, central time displays, or lume, has proven to be an exceptional daily wearer for some collectors due to its legibility, comfortable size, and the unique way its subdial preserves the view of the movement.
- The S1's boxed sapphire crystal is a notable design element that enhances depth and protects the bezel, contributing to the watch's overall quality and making it suitable for everyday wear.
- The 39.6mm Greubel Forsey reference challenges the perception of the brand's watches as oversized, offering a surprisingly comfortable and wearable experience that belies its horological complexity.
- The decision to consolidate a collection to acquire an S1, particularly the steel with black dial version, is seen as a worthwhile endeavor by collectors who value its daily wearability and exceptional craftsmanship.
- The daily ritual of winding the S1, even while traveling, underscores its integration into a collector's lifestyle, highlighting its enduring appeal and practical wearability over extended periods.
- The watch's ability to slip easily under a cuff and its subtle presence, despite its intricate details, make it a versatile piece that doesn't demand overt attention but rewards closer inspection.
