Timeout's personal acquisition of a Kari Voutilainen GMT-6, delivered in May 2020, offers a rare glimpse into the bespoke world of independent watchmaking. His decision to opt for a neutral dial palette, inspired by a significant auction showing, underscores the enduring appeal and unique customization potential of Voutilainen's creations. This piece highlights the meticulous craftsmanship and the deeply personal connection collectors form with these horological masterpieces.

A unique combination of very cool and elegant. It reminds me a bit of the new AP Code as well as the taupe/beige AP ROO, but obviously your KV is on a different level than those. Beautifully done.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This would more precisely be defined as a TAK - there is a similar GMT-6 somewhere in the world which is what gave me the idea for this one.
Here’s a shot of the dial side of the movement. I love the level of finishing on something that will never see the light of day.
If you watch the video from Dubai he talks about his passion for watches / watchmaking / watch design and one point he makes is that the idea of finishing something that will not be seen is just bonkers (fascinating, fantastic). He also kinda of equates it to an older way of doing things; doing everything to the best one can just to be proud of what one is doing not because you expect someone to see it. If you haven’t watched the video, try to do so. The passion is infectious.
That is a beautiful dial, restrained on the colour choices but very interesting with the variation in guilloche.
I’ll take a look at the video. Barleycorn and Fish Scales according to KV were the two patterns on this one. Here’s the plate side of the movement - without the glass
