KIH provides a hands-on review of the Hublot Big Bang Unico Black and White, a model initially released for the Japanese market. This article offers a detailed look at the watch's aesthetics and construction, contrasting its actual appearance with initial press renders. KIH's insights cover the titanium case, white dial, and unique strap, highlighting the watch's visual versatility and design nuances.
As previously reported, Hublot came out with Big Bang Unico Black & White for Japanese Market (surely, other region boutique can order, I am sure), and the picture back then was not clear enough and couldn't imagine how the actual model was going to be. The other day, I had a special opportunity at the Ginza Boutique (this is NOT a LE model, but the orders, reservations are flooding and it won't go display for quite sometime, that said, the one which came for someone who placed an order had just arrived and I was able to see and handle it without actually wearing it - thank you, the future owner and Hublot boutique!)
The rendered photo/ picture at the time of press release:
Couldn't be quite sure how "black and white" this would be.
Now the actual one. The case is ALL Titanium - so, silver. Inside dial is white color base.
But, depending on the angle, surely looks black case
The date winder is a bit unique and grey color number is hard to read for the ever aging eyes.... :-(
Even at this magnification, reading "13" is a bit hard. Could have been black?
Overall, beautifully designed and finished.
Side is all black ceramic. And notice the strap is black rubber base, white leather surface "fusion".
Beautiful Unico movement.
Again, black rubber base with white leather surface strap. Black line on the front is a nice accent.
Even the side of the bezel is beautifully mirror-polished and looks black depending on the angle.
Now on the wrist, just putting on it (did not wear!). Although in the bad light situation, black and white version is for more people than the red and white version (although it was KP) some time ago.
What always amazes me with this Big Bang Unico mechanism is its silky smooth touch of the chronograph pushers, whether it is car pedal like Ferrari series, or this piston like round pusher. I hope the video shows it to you. I haven't felt this silky touch from other column wheel chronograph watches. Would recommend you try at the retailers or boutique near you.
From the similar angle as the press release photo rendering.
The crown is guarded by black rubber.
Quite a "Black and White" watch, indeed.

================================================================================= Overall, I really like this model - no wonder the orders are flooding and they cannot display just quite yet. The plus is its design, color combination - so spartan look and yet serious impression. Of course, the Unico movement's smoothness is needless to say here again. The only minus is the date legibility. If you are over 40, make sure you have reading glass or check it at the AD, if possible.
But even without seeing or handling, this is highly recommended for any guys who want to look serious professional off-timer
Thanks for reading, and thank you, Hublot Ginza Boutique, as always.
Best,
Ken
Key Points from the Discussion
The watch's overall design is stunning, though the grey date numerals can be difficult to read for some.
The Big Bang Unico Black and White is a bold piece, and a standard black rubber strap could also complement its aesthetic well.
This model is a strong contender for collectors seeking a white-themed sports watch.

First live photos we have seen of this model, great job Ken!
Definitely a bold piece. I'm sure you could go w/ a standard black rubber and it would still look great. Hope to see one in person one day :-)

Wish there was a red accent on the dial, would look even better! Congrats to the owner!

Very nice indeed Ken...
I agree on the date, but overall the watch is stunning!! I am a big fan of Hublots in white and wear my original one quite often... obviously not in England where it rains most of the time, but when on holiday and it is sunshine it feels great. Thanks for sharing, Andrew
