Hs111 shares his initial impressions of the Habring2 Felix Doppel Split Seconds Chronograph, a significant acquisition from the independent Austrian manufacture. This post delves into the aesthetic and emotional impact of the watch, building on a prior Salon QP article. Hs111's personal reflections offer a valuable perspective on the craftsmanship and appeal of this complex timepiece.

Friends, some of you may have read the nice featured Salon QP article by

Magnus (aka Ornatus Mundi) about the newest child of the small,

independent Austrian manufacture Habring2, synonymus for

the last name of Richard & Maria. -

You can find it Here

Here some initial lines of the Habring product overview & excerpted mission statement:

They are a relatively young (since 2004) brand, but they already have been

writing their own history, eg by developing Austria‘s first ever wristwatch movement

or by reinventing the deat-beat seconds device.

They also have won as the first independent Brand Geneva‘s prestigious

Grand Prix d‘horologerie de Geneve three times in a row.

Enough of Intro here:

If you want to read more about them, look for habring2.com ( hope that’s

still within Forum rules) or/and read Magnus‘ above mentiined rather  recent article

about their newest child within their portfolio: the Doppel Felix Split Second

Chronograph ( or Rattrapente Chronograph complication), which they

very recently have introduced.

I already have been the proud and happy owner of one of their newer

models, the Erwin Jumping Second, a very classic and non-obtrusive 3-hands

time only  watch, I meanwhile dearly love, after I had them make one for me in

last year‘s third quarter. - A really fine watch, not more, no less..

 -  I subsequently was immediately taken by this new offering of the Doppel Felix

Split second Chronograph model in their excellent Independent quality in a super

attractive design package, IMHO.

Please find below one of their own photos, with the 2 models the

Doppel Felix comes and my own new child overlaid.

Here my newest 2018 arrival, for me a real pleasure..

Thus I thought to share this one as my newest incoming from

them, arriving just last week, making me the happy owner of what I think

is a truly fine Chronograph, from case to movement, from dial to function.

The one I chose, is the one with the telemeter scale ( there is one other model for

date instead), coming in a dark grey dial color. That dial plate is made of silver

galvanized metal and it renders 3 different surface finishes: there is circular

brushing at the outer bezel, which hosts the telemeter scale, the central dial

plate part is with vertical brushing and not to forget, the lower sunken counters

with the circular finish. The hour markers are plated & applied in rose gold,

same color as the hands.

That superbly executed dial design is very attractive, and if you look at the

Telemeter scale, there also  is a darker groove between that one and the inner

minuterie scaling. - The other effects are variable, dependent in part on the

angle and intensity of light rays; sometimes by tilting the dial, the indices

will vary their color from red gold to black, or in essence into their

negative, a feature I find truly attractive and lively for that aspect of an

alluring dial presentation, just by changing bits and angle of different light rays.

There is the Stop Second hand out of the center and also the Rattrapente one;

likewise in RG the minute & hour hands. The counter @ 9 is for the small

running sec and the one @ 3 the 30min Chronometer counter. Both are

with circular finish, as mentioned above.

Otherwise, it‘s a 42mm ss case, with 2 pushers: one @ 2 for start /stop / reset

of the Chrono and one @10 for the Rattrapente hand.

It truly wears very attractively, the 42mm for me is a perfect size, it is

sitting comfortably on the wrist and a true pleasure to look down on it,

and to indulge oneself into the charm of light on this attractive piece.

Now, not to forget & to just finish up, here some pics, of my newest arrival

in my stables. I must say, it‘s one of those cases where the arriving surprise

and features really surpassed my expectations.

Their in-house A11R movement

An attractive package, IMO

On the dark dial with shades of grey are contrasted by the RG indices & hands

Sitting nicely on the wrist

There are three different finishes: outer brushed Telemeter scale, inner minuterie and central vertical brush

Slight tilting towards light can transform the indices into their black negative

Simply love the dark grey contrasted & very legible dial

Here again the effect of a changed light ray ( Credit pic: Ornatus Mundi)

Well, hope you liked this new Habring2 child a bit,

- I do & in fact, quite a lot..

- Welcome to my stables,

Habring2 - Doppel Felix Split Seconds Chronograph !

Cheers & Best to all,

Habring2 is easily one of the brands that I most respect. Genuine good watches (with or without any interesting complications) built by talented and honest people. They're made to be worn. This doppel felix is a very handsome execution. I have a small preference for the dateless version due to its cleaner look. Would love to have one of these in my watch box. Wear this beauty with joy and good health! Ken
