In a world of mass-produced luxury, the pursuit of unique, artisanal timepieces often leads collectors down highly individualized paths. Yet, as holdemchamp1225 recounts, the universe sometimes conspires to bring together horological soulmates. His experience at Geneva Watch Days, encountering a near-identical Romain Gauthier Logical One, highlights the profound connections forged not just with watches, but with fellow enthusiasts who share an extraordinary passion.

I will try and do a series of posts in the Indie subforum to explain all the craziness that went on during Geneva Watch Days.

Here is the back story to the fraternal twin Logical One pieces :

Romain Gauthier, one of my favorite Indie watchmakers, made a special series of 12 Logical One pieces in 6 pairs of colors in enamel Grand Feu by Anita Porchet (blue, bronze, brown green, red, and purple/violet).

Each was put into your choice to case material, finishing type, baseplate color, etc...

Most, if not all of the pairs, were identical in configuration except for a few that were bespoke with engravings, etc...

This was the case for the blue dial Logical One that I own. I first saw this configuration in an SJX article he published in 2020 and immediately fell in love as it was the configuration I liked the most (white metal case with yellow frosted baseplate). The one in the SJX article was a PIECE UNIQUE as it had an engraved baseplate and movement while also using one of the Anita Porchet dials so that left one other one out there that would also be a piece unique by default due to only having 2 blue dials of this type.

Fast forward to last year and I was presented the opportunity to purchase the EXACT configuration I would have chosen anyways (blue Anita Porchet enamel dial, white gold case, yellow frosted baseplate) and to my surprise I actually preferred the baseplate without the engraving as I find it allows you to focus on the 2 elements that make the ultimate Logical One for me, which is the amazing fusΓ©e & chain made with Ruby rollers and the superlative enamel dial done by Anita.

I must say that I have been to many GTGs in my life and it is extremely rare to see 2 Logical One pieces together, even in a very large setting such as Watches & Wonders, BaselWorld, etc...but to see your identical (in this case, fraternal) twin, it is pretty much equivalent to winning some sort of lottery.

Just think about it. There are ONLY 2 of these EVER MADE in this exact blue hue done by Anita. To think that I would eventually meet the owner of the other piece was very very very unlikely but to do it in such a way as to be linked together in a VERY close knit group of collectors is mind-blowing 😳

The best thing about it is that the owner of the piece is my doppelganger in terms of horological taste and also very similar in culture. This young man is extraordinary and I am so happy to call him my horological brother πŸ™πŸ™

We also had a chance to speak with Romain extensively which was amazing in itself. He explained the back story of how and why these pieces were created with Anita which was super special to know. He has some incredible stuff coming out and shared a couple secrets with us. All I can say is, I am already ALL IN since I consider him on the A team of modern Indies.

We also share an eery bond with other pieces as we also have a DeBethune DB28 which are both number 5 of 5 in their respective series.

What are the chances of that happening as well, on top of the Logical One connection ?? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”

And lastly, we had the EXTREME fortune to be granted a culturally significant project which will be made for us from one of the most loveable people in horology, as well as being an incredible watchmaker. That is another story for another day.

Enough gibby gabba, here are the horological fraternal twins reunited for the first to many times to come.

My apologies for the bad quality photos. No excuse for that as we spent 4 days together but we were so busy with Geneva Watch Days activities, meetings, visits, parties, lunches, dinners, fondues, etc...we didn't even bother to take better photos since bonding and human experience were much more important and emotional than any photo could provide.

Love this ref! The non-engraved baseplate has a slight advantage for me.

Two the same Logical Ones and…. owners. For instance the chance you meet a look alike that wears a Rolex date just in the same size and dial is not strange. But a RG, the best independent on this globe? Good to know RG do bespoke, cause i know what i will have. Some lines are for me overkill, and maybe he must change to much, while it become a Continuum. That watch is precisely what as the pictures shown i want. Ok, it have no chain, but i can get not all what i want. Good to know the Geneva wat

I opt for the second answer, since, as you said, the chances to see two of this one are almost close to zero. Water, my friend, water! ))) Best, Nicolas
