just wondering and trying to understand, Why FPJ see 18k gold as choice for movement material / base plate? Isn’t ‘gold’ soft than steel or brass or other alloys ? Is there any other manufacturer who use 'gold' movement ? Best, mahesh., Picture Courtesy : Thanks to Monochrome

Best,
mahesh.,
I think there are several elements which could explain why FP Journe uses gold for his calibers such as history, exclusivity, beauty, more practical to work than steel for example, the "power of gold" in our mind... He is not alone to do that. I know that Julien Coudray makes true gold calibers which is not really the case of FP Journe. Best wishes Alkiro
I enjoy the wealth of knowledge in this place !
A gold movement is indeed much more precious, to our eyes
I hope experts will give us deeper explanations. Best wishes Alkiro
normally gold is not a structural material considering its softness. UTS of gold is lower than steel or brass.
I have read these statements: - In 2014, Journe released a version of Chronometre Souverain with a gold dial, again in efforts of living his dream of making a full gold watch. - "I make my watches as if there was no other way to tell time". -François-Paul Journe His personal choices.
