Inspired by a fellow collector's post, NickO initiates an appreciation thread for De Bethune, inviting owners and enthusiasts to share their favorite pieces. He kicks off the discussion by showcasing three of his own 'old-school' De Bethune watches: the DB 22, DB 28, and Dream Watch 3.
De Bethune DB25 Reference DB25
The DB25 represents De Bethune's entry in the 44.5mm manual-wind category, distinguished by its silver dial configuration within the DB25 series. This reference launched in 2006 and continues the brand's approach to contemporary haute horlogerie complications.
The 44.5mm case is crafted from 18k white gold with a fixed bezel and sapphire crystal. Water resistance extends to 30 meters. The manual-winding caliber DB2105 movement provides a substantial 120-hour power reserve. The watch features a leather strap attachment.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking De Bethune's technical approach to timekeeping in a precious metal case. The extended power reserve and manual-wind operation position it for enthusiasts who appreciate hands-on interaction with their timepieces. The 44.5mm sizing places it in contemporary proportions within the independent watchmaking segment.
The brand has struggled, I wish I understood more about why.
While I have sold as many DB as almost anyone on Earth, including many that feature on this forum, this unique DB28T I bought for myself. Definitely not the sort of thing I would usually choose, when I saw it I thought "this is the most beautiful watch I've ever seen in my life." Figured I had to buy it and decide what to do with it later! Most often I wear it in the office where it puts a smile on my face without having to make such a statement in public. I also dig the white strap! Looks great
I’m not an owner, but I think many of De Bethune’s watches are beautiful and modern. Some are not to my taste, but I think they’ve hit their stride with the articulating lugs. The DB28 is the signature and the one I might choose myself. With a large budget, I’d seriously consider the new DB21RE Maxichrono Reediton. The new dial is a significant improvement, one of those busy dials that looks pleasing to the eye. Very impressive technically too. Did not even know of its existence until your post
I think I can comfortably say that is my favorite blinged-out piece of all time. Thanks for posting!
It put a big smile on my face as well! Equal parts beautiful and outrageous
The digitale, the sky bridge, and the starry varius are all amazing. Incredibly elegant and intriguing designs.
