Dr. Tabby's original post highlights the exciting venture of Dan Spitz, former Anthrax guitarist, into haute horology with his American-made watch featuring the Libre Excentrique Escapement. This initiative, following Spitz's extensive watchmaking education and experience as Chopard's head of complications, underscores a significant moment for independent watchmaking in the United States. The community's discussion explores the broader implications of this new 'golden age' for mechanical watchmaking and the potential for American independent brands.

...name a better combination. I think we’re in or entering into a new golden age for mechanical watchmaking, with many interesting and appealing watches are being imagined and realized in all corners of the world. Today, there is much more to appreciate than scarcity and value. Some these independent watches won’t make it to production, but that hardly matters* when the journeys themselves are quite compelling. A discussion on this particular open source direct impulse escapement would be worth
Hand shape reminds me very much of Vianney Halter... which is a great thing and I'm a huge sucker for a slow-beating, oversized balance wheel. Exciting times!
You're right that it is a kind of golden age for independent watchmaking, with kickstarter stuff on the low end and this kind of work on the high end.

I checked it out thoroughly a month or two ago, and he appears a bit more proud of himself than the average joe. Details of the watch itself are scarce... at least, not enough for me to have any confidence that it will happen. But I’ve been wrong before. Cazalea
For American watchmakers, there is RGM, and I would put hypothetical money down on Joshua Shapiro, who is very nice. Mr. Shapiro' has been working for over a year on an American movement watch based on a high-grade Hamilton movement. That will be interesting to be see when he's ready to announce it.
