Success for Porsche Motorsport and Chopard at 'Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps' of FIA World Endurance Championship 2015

Spa-Francorchamps – Belgium – May, 2nd 2015

The Porsche 919 Hybrids started the race in the first 3 places on the grid – P1, P2 and P3 – they are the fastest race cars at qualifying.

After a double success at the opening race of the season in Silverstone, the Porsche teams made the most of the 'Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps' race to prepare for Le Mans 2015. The three Porsche 919 Hybrid cars led by Romain Dumas, Mark Webber and Nico HĂĽlkenberg won 2nd, 3rd and 6th positions in the LMP1 championship.

HĂĽlkenberg was spending a spare weekend off from his regular job as a F1 driver for Force India.

Spa Francorchamps: a demanding racetrack

The Spa-Francorchamps track is acknowledged as one of the finest in the world. Named the “Toboggan of the Ardennes”, this extremely fast circuit is highly technical and greatly appreciated by drivers.  With its straight lines and rapid curves, this track offers sensations unknown at other tracks, for both drivers and spectators.

In 1979, the race track was completely redesigned to new safety standards. The present track is 7.395 km long.  At Spa Francorchamps, racing experience makes a difference. The weather in Belgium is sometimes as surprising as the races. Thus, it may be raining on one part of the track while the rest of the track is still dry.

For many people, the track remains, "one of the world's most beautiful race tracks" Jacky Ickx, longstanding Chopard ambassador, is one of only two drivers to have won on both the old 14.1km and the new 7.4km circuits at Spa-Francorchamps.

Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, co-president of Chopard states: “Porsche creates ultimate sports cars, successful in racing and exciting to drive on the road. Chopard shares this passion for performance and excellence. We are proud to accompany Porsche as official timing partner for their second Endurance racing season.”

Chopard Superfast watches

Porsche Motorsport and Chopard naturally gravitated towards each other around their passion for racing but also for their contribution to performance and precision in their respective fields.

The Superfast watches were the first Chopard Classic Racing watches to be equipped with an in-house movement, chronometer certified by the COSC.

Chopard Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 Edition

Worn by Porsche Motorsport pilots, the Superfast watches are tested under extreme conditions (speed, temperature, endurance racing) to guarantee a perfect exactitude of the watch.

Everything Chopard learns from the race track brings the House a step further in it’s development of the Superfast watch collection.

......so they have amazing results to gain pole positions at both Silverstone and Spa this year. In fact, Porsche Hybrid 919 were P1 and P2 at Silverstone start grid and swept P1 - P3 at Spa starting. Fastest cars at the start of season 2. Now, they only have to avoid accidents, penalties and over-optimistic tyre strategies to win at Le Mans. ;) Regards, MTF
