Since 1988, Chopard is the main sponsor and official timekeeper of the « Corsa più bella del Mondo » ! This year again, Chopard celebrated this milestone in the most beautiful way.

On May 15th, a gala dinner took place at Hotel Palazzo Arzaga, in the Brescia countryside. After enjoying Champagne and Bellini cocktails, over 120 guests were treated with the most sophisticated Italian dishes served in a transparent tent dressed on the panoramic terrace of the hotel. Inside the tent, the decoration reminded the beautiful Mille Miglia landscape with wild poppy flowers lighted by hundreds of candles. Among the guests were famous Spanish tenor José Carreras, German singer Herbert Grönemeyer, German actor Thomas Heinze as well as Jacky Icky, close friend of Chopard.

The next morning Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and Christine Scheufele roared away to Brescia in their Ferrari 750 Monza followed by Karl Scheufele and Albert Carreras in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL.

In the evening over 410 cars took off from the famous departure ramp at Viale Venezia in Brescia for the 1000 miles leading them via Ferrara to Rome and back to Brescia.

it actually rained....and rained...... This was a good year to drive a vintage car with a tin roof! :-) Mr Karl Scheufele III chose well with a Mercedes-Benz Gull Wing but alas, Mr and Mrs Karl-Friedrich Scheufele "suffered" in the Ferrari open cockpits. On the other hand, it was a wonderful kind of suffering in the prancing horse car. The horological question is whether they chose the usual Chopard Mille Miglia watches or switched to a LUC (Diver) Pro One watch and scuba gear? :-) Regards, MTF
