Nicolas (amanico) shares his enduring fascination with the Chopard L.U.C The Tribute, a unique timepiece he encountered at IGOTT II in 2011. His article delves into the watch's distinctive design, including its dual pocket/wristwatch functionality and impressive movement, offering a personal perspective on what makes this Chopard stand out. This piece provides a valuable collector's review of a notable L.U.C reference.

I already said it, but the LUC Tribute was one of my best horological souvenir from the Las Vegads IGOTT II.

It was in June 2011, but since, I must confess that this watch obsesses me.

I am not a big fan of pocket watches, even if I admire them a lot for what they are ( the essence of horology, with some great finish, sometimes ) but this Chopard is really somethng as you can use it as a pocket watch, of course ( the case is 49, 6 mm big! ), OR as a wristwatch.

Indeed, Chopard found an interesting system to offer you the choice between a pocket or a wristwatch.

Here is a picture of the fastening system, whch says all:

The dial, made of laquered ceramic, is fascinating, even if I would have preferred an enamel one ( Credit picture: Kong )

And the movement is pure ecstasy ( Credit picture: Kong, once again )

A movement " especially made by Chopard for the students at the Geneva Watchmaking School to assist them in creating their “school piece” ", says the press file...

One thing is sure, the movement has a very pleasant design and level of finish.

I had one doubt, though, about the wearabikity of this " opus ".

With a 49, 6 mm case, it was a serious doubt, indeed, but as you can see on the pictures above, the lugs are pretty short, and don't overcome a reasonnably sized wrist ( mine is 17 cm big, and a wrist test confirmed me that it was big, fr sure, but not unwearable ).

From all the Chopard watches I saw, yes, this LUC Tribute was certainly the one which let me the stronger impression.

And you, which is your favourite Chopard?

Best,
Nicolas

Don't know that much about Chopard, but I got some favorites, mostly LUCs, and the Tribute is definitely one of them. ;) Best Marcelo

I have to say that this one is in my wish list... I can't find the wristshot I took during the IGOTT II, but I still remember that I was in BIG trouble... ;) Best, Nicolas.

Thanks Nicholas for sharing your thoughts. I think The Tribute is a beautiful watch for the LUC enthusiast or someone who has everything else already. It is exactly as the name suggests....a tribute to the founder of Chopard company: Louis Ulysse Chopard who started it all in 1860. I am a little biased but my favourite Chopard watch (currently) is the PuristSPro Purity Prize winner iin 2009: the L.U.C. Lunar One. The moon and night sky disc is a true facsimile of the sky in the Northern hemisphe

Thanks MTF for this. Made me do a Google search for the original post announcing the prize. I especially like how the prize was designed (the size, the size of the circle, etc.).

Yes, the mooonphase is really something on this perpetual calendar. I still hear our friend Patrick W explaining us how much work and how many efforts have been put in the moonphase. Certainly a well deserved prize! Best, Nicolas

Among the simple ones, the L.U.C 1937 with gray dial and offset crown. Among the complex ones; the L.U.C Hour striker.
