On the night of October 31, 2008, most people would dress up in their Halloween costumes and be doing their traditional Halloween parties.  Giving out candies, scaring everyone you bump into with your most creative Halloween appearance.  For me, I did something a little bit different, something not so traditional some might say.  I joined my uncle Alan Tse to this special event by Chopard – L.U.C Collectors’ Dinner at Nicholini’s Conrad Hotel, Pacific Place.  We arrived at the staging area while filled with “Watch Geeks” discussing watches.

It was amazing, while reading the iWatch magazine from FLM, we also discussed and shared our own stories of watch collections with each other.

After a brief moment with all the sharing, we went to the dining room and had everyone seated.  It started with an introduction and welcome speech by PuristSPro.com Dr. Thomas Mao, the Founder and Executive Director of ThePuristS.com.

Next to the great and influential speech by Dr. Thomas Mao, was the welcome speech by Chopard Mr. Roland Buser, the Managing Director of Chopard Hong Kong Limited.

Then, Mr. Patrick Wehrli, the Guest-of-Honor L.U.C Specialist did a thorough yet informative presentation on the Chopard L.U.C.

The presenatation was simply amazing, before tonight, I had no idea how detailed and sophisticated a Chopard watch is.  Even more amazing is that out of the 75,000 Chopard watches produced each year, only 3,000 pieces are L.U.C.  It makes me want to own one L.U.C right away.  Mr. Patrick Wehrli did a little comparison between a nice tailor-made suit and a Chopard L.U.C; a nice tailor-made suit looks good not only on the outside layer, but even the inside lining are carefully and thoughtfully made.  The inside layer looks so good that it makes you want to wear it inside-out.  It is the same as the Chopard L.U.C watches, they are all great and flawless from outside-in and inside-out.

Following the presentation, we enjoyed our delicious dinner with foie gras as appetizer and beef tenderloin as main course.  Of course, both red and white wine are served to go with the food and the evening!

Afterwards, it was time to give everyone a hands-on experience on the Chopard L.U.C watches, the collection Mr. Roland Buser and Mr. Patrick Wehrli brought to share with us.

My uncle Alan Tse also brought one of the very first Chopard L.U.C watches he got from my grandpa and shared it with everyone that night.

At the end of the evening, we concluded by taking our Chopard – L.U.C group photo!

Remember, the essence of a Chopard L.U.C watch is that not only it looks good on the outside, but also the inside, even the tiniest screw is specially designed and hand-made!

Dear kevintse, First - welcome to our forum; always good to have iW magazine readers cross-over visiting to PuristSpro website. I see that Mr Kong helped with the posting this first time Thanks Kong! As you live in HKG, you must recognise the significance of PPro logo "1-7-8" and it's meaning in Cantonese: "All together prosper". That means the whole horology community wins together. Next, I have to say that I wish I had an uncle like yours to introduce this hobby to me when I was your age. Alas

hahaha, yes, I'm quite lucky to have an uncle like Alan, but also on the other hand, he got me so addicted to all these beautiful masterpieces that I can't afford to buy anything else but watches, hehehe (which I do not mind at all.) So far he lured me bought 3 already, and I'm guessing he will continue until I go totally broke! Cheers! P.S. Thanks Kong for posting on my behalf this very first time! Kevin Tse

Nice writeup. It's my pleasure to post on your behalf. Now that you can post, could you post us some pics of any of your pieces? Among the L.U.C, which is/are your favorite? Kong

I enjoyed the evening very much, with a group of like minded watch enthusiasts. Thanks to Roland and Patrick of Chopard, for hosting this event and introduced us to the world of Chopard, inside out, as well as outside in. Thanks to Thomas, who have this great fora on the web, and the friends of iW Magazine- Alfred, Anna....etc. My favourates are the LUC 1860 and LUC Twist. I think I am going to be broke soon. Henry

We like the same pieces and the classical models.... what do you think about the TECH series, like TECH Twist instead? Kong

Kong, I still prefer the more classical ones. It is easier to show fine polishing and workmanship in the simpler models. But all Chopard LUC watches are work of art.
