MTF presents an exclusive, spontaneous interview with Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard, at Baselworld 2016. This candid discussion focuses on the significant decision to introduce L.U.C watches in steel cases, particularly the L.U.C 1860 XPS, offering a rare glimpse into the brand's strategic thinking directly from its leadership.
Dear PuristS
From Baselworld 2016 trade show, Chopard Co-President, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele had a spontaneous chat about the new L.U.C 1860 XPS steel watch and a video is available here.
Don't you just love it when Life and Things fall into place?
It was not a planned meeting as we already planned a formal interview at the end of the exhibition week.
Mr Scheufele was so excited about this rather 'purist' decision to offer L.U.C watches in steel cases that he could not wait to tell PuristS about it.
With the magic of modern technology and devices, a nice person captured this video for us.
No script, No director, No rock music, No special effects, No actors.......Just friends and purists chatting for PuristS with only 3 minutes notice...That's spontaneous.
Chance meeting in a corridor.
Three minutes later..........Video Time!
Exclusive Interview Karl-Friedrich Scheufele for PuristS at BaselWorld 2016
The L.U.C 1860 reference is a notable offering within the L.U.C collection, distinguished by its focus on classical watchmaking principles and refined aesthetics. This particular model, introduced at Watches and Wonders 2023, represents a continuation of Chopard's commitment to high horology, emphasizing traditional craftsmanship and a discreet presentation. It is recognized for its balanced proportions and the integration of a finely finished movement, reflecting the brand's in-house manufacturing capabilities.
This reference features a case crafted from Lucent Steel, a proprietary alloy, measuring 36.5 mm in diameter. The watch is powered by the L.U.C 96.01-L automatic movement, which is visible through a sapphire crystal case back. This movement is equipped with a micro-rotor and offers a power reserve of approximately 65 hours. The dial is presented in a salmon color, complemented by a sapphire crystal on the front.
Appealing to collectors who value understated design and mechanical integrity, the L.U.C 1860 fits into the brand's lineup as a dress watch with significant horological merit. Its limited production and specific material choices contribute to its appeal among enthusiasts seeking a watch that combines traditional watchmaking with contemporary material science. The model is a testament to Chopard's ongoing development in its L.U.C range.
Congrats for this interview and I have to say that I appreciated a lot to see LUC novelties with SS case this year. Good move by Chopard. Fx
So nice to hear those things with his own words. He is as always a true gentleman. Thanks Melvyn! Ken
Great candid interview. How cool that the both of you were wearing your 1860´s. Congrats to Mr. KFS for 20 years of the L.U.C Manufacture. A true gem and joy for us watchmaking enthusiasts. Here´s wishing him continued success! All the best, Alejandro
And for adding our voice towards getting more nice movements into stainless steel cases - both much appreciated!
Of course, the L.U.C 1860/1 original watches were de rigueur for Baselworld 2016 ! We would have been "undressed" without them. Of course, Mr KFS had a special piece unique modified version as a gift from the current Mrs KFS. Regards, MTF
Always nicer to get some info this way and feel people behind the watches. Cheers, Mark
