This post delves into how brands cultivate an exceptional environment through consistent aesthetic principles across diverse products, challenging the notion of "watch-only" luxury.

CHOPARD FOR CHRISTMAS 2014
"Luxury is a state of mind"

"The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.": Clairee Belcher - a character in the film 'Steel Magnolias' (1989)

LUC 1963 Chronograph in Rose Gold

There are TWO questions for PuristS at the bottom of this posting but I need to set the scene before you answer:

Chopard was founded as a watchmaking business in 1860 until in 1963, when the Schefeule family brought their watch and jewellery-making expertise to the company. In harmony with the spirit of its universe of luxury craftsmanship, Chopard has developed a range of accessories.

The three principles of excellence, workmanship and the beauty are adhered to by Chopard to produce objects that surround us in an exceptional environment and privileged living spaces.  These lifestyle objects appear in a wide range of areas including leather goods, glasses, fragrances, scarves, ties, pens, china and silver.

If "luxury is a state of mind", then many famous names have ascribed to this adage e.g. Cartier, Piaget and Montblanc; where prowess in one area demands the adoption of the aesthetic principles in other products to provide an exceptional environment and true quality of life.

Watch snobs are unaware that their beloved "watch only" brands also play this psychological card by association, if not in actuality. That is why brands sponsor tennis tournaments, yacht races, F1 Grand Prix, horse-jumping, football or world-record attempts at free-falling to Earth. Even Rolex sponsors 4  of the 6 events mentioned.

I love to wear a Chopard necktie with accompanying tie-clip, cuff-links and...YES...even the watch.   smile

I pat my pocket to reassure myself of the presence of a Chopard wallet and pen; to top it all, I spray a little Chopard 'Rose Malaki' man-fragance on my jaw-line or neck, and I'm ready for the world.  I feel rugged and accessorised....I am above the animals...

I do the same 'matching exercise' with my Cartier and Montblanc products but Chopard has the edge of accessories with a car tyre pressure gauge.    Fantastic!

NEW FOR CHRISTMAS 2014

This Christmas, four delectable objects have been introduced to Chopard’s select accessories and lifestyle range. Each is produced with the same attention to quality and excellence as their watches and jewellery – starting with the materials, such as the quality full-grain leather, produced in Italy and used for the black “Houston” briefcase, in which, elegant men can carry their laptops and work documents.

Also in the masculine universe, a “Superfast” rollerball pen in matt black lacquer, on which both the inscription “Classic Racing” and the red steering wheel on the cap pay tribute to a world close to Chopard’s heart.

Ladies are enveloped by a plethora of precious details when they pick up their pens. The “Happy Diamonds” rollerball in black resin offers finishes in rose gold and a touch of amethyst on the cap. A mobile jewel waltzing inside a heart perfects the curves of this precious pen.

As the evening approaches, a clutch bag in gold-toned fabric with a snakeskin style motif adds an electric touch to any outfit. Christened “Tokyo” and either hung from the shoulder with a golden chain or clasped in the hand, it literally oozes glamour and is the ideal accessory for the festive season.

Happy Curves

The constantly renewed light effects created by the Happy Diamonds are now further enhanced by a play on volumes in the Happy Curves, as circular and heart shapes featuring cambered, rounded and softened contours blend their steps with the Happy Diamonds waltz.

"The sapphire crystals, between which, the diamonds twirl, are also cambered, endowing the precious stones with a magnifying glass type effect.

The diamonds thus play tricks on the observer’s eyes and change dimension, offering the magic of a universe in perpetual movement. These enchanting volumes radiate a generous sensuality through their full, soft curves."

Their words....not mine but I believe them.

I've seen what the original Happy Diamonds can do to a woman and have to admit a certain mesmerising effect even on me.

Can you imagine what the variable magnifying effect of the new Happy Curves will do for your 'lay-dees', my good friends?

HOME for a Chopard Christmas

For the die-hard horology fans, how about a Chopard LUC Quattro Table Clock?

Just for the mechanically-inclined, the movement and see-through case back should provide years of fun.

Chestnuts roasting by the fireplace,
Jack Frost tickling at your nose,

Backgammon with Chopard and a mug of mulled wine should go down well this Yuletide....

1) Which of these delectable offerings catch your eye?

2) After assurance of horological prowess, can you accept the desire to surround oneself with the luxury of mono-brand accessories?

Happy Holidays!

Regards,

MTF

About the Chopard L.U.C Ref. L.U.C1860

The L.U.C 1860 reference is a notable offering within the L.U.C collection, distinguished by its focus on classical watchmaking principles and refined aesthetics. This particular model, introduced at Watches and Wonders 2023, represents a continuation of Chopard's commitment to high horology, emphasizing traditional craftsmanship and a discreet presentation. It is recognized for its balanced proportions and the integration of a finely finished movement, reflecting the brand's in-house manufacturing capabilities.

This reference features a case crafted from Lucent Steel, a proprietary alloy, measuring 36.5 mm in diameter. I saw the photos sent by Chopard in the same order as you did and felt the same way. The GMT Travel clock is quartz powered and I already have Wempe and a Seiko (bite my tongue) travel clocks. Then, the Quattro Table Clock photo appeared.....but I must be strong as I just got a new Chopard watch after Salon QP..... More about that after enough review time on wrist. ;) MTF
