KIH, a passionate admirer of Vienna, shares his personal encounter with the Carl Suchy & Sohne Waltz No.1 'Blue Danube' in Japan. This post offers a detailed look at a rare independent timepiece, highlighting its unique design elements and the brand's historical revival. KIH's enthusiasm for both the watch and its Austrian heritage shines through, inviting readers to appreciate this distinctive creation.

Vienna is one of my most favorite places I love to visit for pleasure - and have been there many times.  I love music, love art, love almost everything.  And many wonderful watch friends.  Really would live there when retired.... smile)  So, when I heard about this watch, I really wanted to see it in person....

Very, very nice one has landed in Japan.

Here it is!

Hard to see, but the closer to the bezel, the dial edge makes upward curve, like the "plate" shape.

Second hand "disc" is slightly different "blue", darker blue.

Let's see how it looks when moving.

Bezel and case side are brushed.

The brand was founded in 1822, used by Franz Joseph I, Sigmund Freud..... and resurrected in 2016.  And the first batch of this model (LE of 22) was successfully sold out, and this batch "B" is LE of 50 with black dial, white dial, all steel case with black case option, and only 5 blue dial, dubbed "Blue Danube".   This is THE Blue Danube, which only 5 will be made.

This may look two hander, but the second subdial is made of "disc" and the guilloche pattern - horizontal and vertical - made it look very elegant way of showing the flow of the time....

Movement is made by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier (Parmigiani Fleurier's movement division), very well finish as expected from Parmigiani Fleurier, micro rotor automatic, 29 stone, 41.5mm x 9.,3mm (thin enough for business purpose), 21,600vph.

Very cool logo on the D-buckle.

The strap is NOT gator, but for this dial, this strap looks well.

Wrist shots... inside and outside.

Outside, wonderfully blue.

As per the timegrapher, between +5 ~ -1.  Good enough.  Cost/ performance ratio is very high, I say.

To me, this one, in terms of design, movement, finishing, and cost, is one of the winners.

"WIEN 1822"

Wonderful "old/new" kid on the block.

And have become curious. Thanks for adding the details, Ken! So, did it become your little memento for Vienna then? As for retiring here, I do hope you need to make many trips to check it out beforehand, too Got plenty of restaurants lined up... Have a great Sunday!
