Dr.kol shares an update on his ongoing service issues with Audemars Piguet regarding his Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar and 15202, revealing AP's offer for a full movement replacement. This post delves into the complexities of luxury watch service, the psychological impact of repeated repairs, and the critical role of brand reputation.
Dear Dr Kari,
I hope my email finds you well.
After discussion with our Management we strongly believe we should offer you the full replacement of the movement. If this solution is acceptable for you we could place an order for the movement to our factory and we should receive it by mid of May.
We will of course make sure the new movement is in perfect running situation and as soon as you drop your piece to our Service Center our master watchmaker will proceed with the movement replacement.
We are really doing our best to find out a fair solution to apologise for the unacceptable experience you are going through.
Thanks
Best,

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak "Jumbo" ref. 15202 is a significant reference within the Royal Oak collection, known for its close adherence to the original 1972 design. It maintains the distinctive slim profile and integrated bracelet that defined the initial Royal Oak, distinguishing it from other Royal Oak models that introduced different sizes or complications. This reference is particularly valued for its historical continuity and minimalist approach to the Royal Oak aesthetic.
This reference features a 39mm case, typically crafted from yellow gold, with a thickness of 8.1mm. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal and offers a water resistance of 50 meters. Powering the watch is the self-winding Caliber 2121, a movement known for its slimness and a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The dial is presented in blue, complementing the yellow gold case and bracelet.
For collectors, the 15202 represents a direct link to the Royal Oak's origins, appealing to those who prioritize historical accuracy and understated design. Its production run from 2012 to 2019 makes it a sought-after reference among enthusiasts of the "Jumbo" lineage. The combination of its classic dimensions, integrated bracelet, and the Caliber 2121 solidifies its position as a key reference in the Audemars Piguet catalog.
As getting a replacement watch for a defective one (minus the case). Sure there were opportunity costs and immeasurable stress but I\'d say the offer is fair and can be assessed after repairs....
Like said, I accepted the offer. Best, Kari
Seems like a good solution for you but like you said it leaves an odd taste after. Will you keep it when you get it back.? I feel your pain after my experience last year. Hope you and the funny one are well. Yours, Andy.
I do not know what I will do. AP is tasting really bad and the "funny" thing is that I really wanted to like Audemars Piguet. I planned to get the EoT after the Royal Oaks. But naturally, I have huge difficulties to trust their products - especially after all the information I got from other AP owners. The problems I faced are not rare. Funny One is fine. We are in Rome and feel quite jet lagged because we left home at 04:45 this morning. Tomorrow I will have a look at some watch store - the Fun
the movement number and the papers do not match. I think that when facing difficulties, each and every manufacturer shows their real faces. But better than nothing... AP is getting an unused movement, just "repaired" in exchange to another unused movement without repairs. Yet... Best, Kari
Now I see the challenges you\'ll face if you to choose to flip the watch with a replacement movement and mismatching ownership booklet.....
