MichaelC shares his initial impressions and stunning photographs of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra-Thin, a timepiece that has been a part of his collection for five months. He highlights the watch's spectacular nature and the challenge of capturing its elusive dark blue dial, promising a comprehensive review to follow.

The Royal Oak Extra-Thin, introduced 2 years ago at SIHH, has been in my collection for almost 5 months now.  I am working on a full review of this watch for the forum.  In the meantime, please enjoy a few new snaps of this spectacular timepiece by Audemars Piguet.

The dial color is difficult to capture on this watch.  Definitely dark blue.  I will be presenting the different appearances of the dial in my full review; it really depends on the light in which it is viewed.

I'm a fan of the venerable Caliber 2121's architecture.

And while the older style rotor was quite nice, I feel AP did a great revision to go with the new watch.

I'm surprised to see it in these photos which I just snapped.  It looks brand new, despite being worn perhaps half the days since I acquired it.

I don't think I have ever referred to a watch as "perfect".  And I might not with this one either, but it is likely as close to perfect as I have ever experienced.

More to come.

The only minor deduction is the date set 10-2 method but the watch would not be the same if that was updated (no pun intended). The blue dial keeps speaking to me, maybe I am just AP crazed. Best, JerryW

heart. I love wearing it and if there were ever a "perfect" design, this would have to be it. Forty two years and still going strong, the looks could be of a watch designed for Basel 2014. What an incredible vision Mr Genta had! Cheers Francois from Down Under

Great photos MichaelC. I like the angular style of the rotor, have you considered getting a custom one with your initials? Regards, Ed
