The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak "Jumbo" Extra-Thin Ref. 15202 holds a special place in horological history, directly tracing its lineage to the original 1972 Ref. 5402. In this feature, original author holdemchamp1225 invites the community to showcase their own 15202s, sparking a vibrant discussion on its enduring appeal, dial variations, and market desirability. This article delves into why collectors continue to covet this iconic reference across its various metal iterations.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak "Jumbo" ref. 15202 is a significant reference within the Royal Oak collection, known for its close adherence to the original 1972 design. It maintains the distinctive slim profile and integrated bracelet that defined the initial Royal Oak, distinguishing it from other Royal Oak models that introduced different sizes or complications. This reference is particularly valued for its historical continuity and minimalist approach to the Royal Oak aesthetic.
This reference features a 39mm case, typically crafted from yellow gold, with a thickness of 8.1mm. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal and offers a water resistance of 50 meters. Powering the watch is the self-winding Caliber 2121, a movement known for its slimness and a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The dial is presented in blue, complementing the yellow gold case and bracelet.
For collectors, the 15202 represents a direct link to the Royal Oak's origins, appealing to those who prioritize historical accuracy and understated design. Its production run from 2012 to 2019 makes it a sought-after reference among enthusiasts of the "Jumbo" lineage. The combination of its classic dimensions, integrated bracelet, and the Caliber 2121 solidifies its position as a key reference in the Audemars Piguet catalog.
Gone, but not forgotten...
In memory of the times when we used to go out
The salmon dial is spectacular. I should have locked up a steel Salmon Jubilee years ago but never did...
Beautiful! And I like how the date disc matches the dial color. That's why I went with the 5712/1A Patek Philippe over the 5711/1A. But I haven't gotten around to procuring one of these beautiful 15202s!
You should definitely add a 15202ST to your collection Patrick as I find it a modern icon with real history tracing back to the original 5402. As you know, I have many Nautilus watches as well but cannot say the same thing since Patek changed the case production as well as the movements. I still love the Nautilus line but I would choose the 15202ST over a 5711/1A without hesitation.
Finding an AP 15202 is starting to become quite difficult! I'm not a precious metals kind of guy neither, so I'm not that keen on acquiring a gold version. I'll just have to wait patiently.
