Samwan's post beautifully intertwines a significant life event—his daughter's wedding—with the acquisition of a new Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars Extra-Thin. This personal narrative offers a glimpse into the emotional connection collectors have with their timepieces, framing a new watch as a commemorative marker for cherished family milestones.

Some of you may recall I bought a Cartier Santos-Dumont skeleton for my son's wedding last year (see the picture below):

Well....guess what...it's my daughter's turn next week....what a convenient excuse for another acquisition! smile

This is what I took home today - Jules Audemars Extra-thin in white gold - another elegant yet dressy piece. Let the pictures speak:

The watch (at 39 mm in diameter, it is an older version of AP's latest novelties but you know my inability to resist Roman indices...):

The movement, seen through the sapphire crystal and caseback (19 jewels, 34-hour power reserve, 138 parts, manually wound)

For the black tie function:

Another one:

Justifying the model's name:

Really thin....

Now that both my children got married, an uncanny feeling of loneliness begins to set in (I am sure I am not the only one).

Finally, here is a picture of the happy couple (I am sure my daughter won't mind me posting this picture - taken at the beautiful Bvlgari Resort in Bali).

Hope you share my happiness.

Sam

About the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Ref. 15305

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak reference 15305 is a notable variant within the Royal Oak line, distinguished by its openworked dial and movement, offering a direct view into the intricate mechanics. This reference represents a more elaborate and technically complex interpretation of the standard Royal Oak, appealing to collectors who appreciate haute horlogerie and the art of skeletonization. It was produced in limited quantities, making it a less common sight compared to its solid-dial counterparts. The openworked design allows for an appreciation of the finishing and architecture of the movement, a hallmark of Audemars Piguet's craftsmanship.

The watch features a 39 mm case crafted from 18k yellow gold, maintaining the classic Royal Oak proportions. It houses the self-winding Caliber 3120, which is meticulously openworked and finished to expose its components. The movement provides a power reserve of 60 hours. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the watch is water-resistant to 50 meters, suitable for everyday wear. The fixed octagonal bezel, a signature element of the Royal Oak, is also in 18k yellow gold.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a Royal Oak with an enhanced level of mechanical artistry and exclusivity. Its openworked nature sets it apart from more common Royal Oak models, positioning it as a piece that highlights Audemars Piguet's technical prowess in movement decoration and design. The 18k yellow gold construction further emphasizes its premium status. While not a double-signed piece as mentioned in the collector's post, the 15305 stands on its own as a significant openworked Royal Oak.

You have many reasons to be happy! Now about that AP...is the caliber inside the cal. 2003? Do you happen to know the thickness of the watch and the referecne number for this one? I know you mentioned that this is an older version of the Ultra-thins AP is offering now, so I gather this one is no longer available new...? It is really beautiful. What a great addition to your collection. Congratulations that, as well. Best, respo

First of all, thanks. To answer your questions: The caliber is 2049. Thickness is 6.2 mm The reference number is 15093BC.OO.A002CR.01 I understand the model is three years old but is still featured in AP's official web site. I have seen the watch with at least one AD that I know. There are altogether 5 variations. The latest versions are automatic. They are 41 mm in diameter and 6.7 mm in thickness, and do not have Roman indices. Best Sam
