MichaelC, a respected voice in the Audemars Piguet community, shares his personalized take on the Audemars Piguet Offshore 25770. His modifications to the date shroud and rubber components offer a compelling vision of how this iconic reference could have been originally designed, sparking a discussion among collectors about aesthetic choices and historical accuracy.

One of my favorite Offshores, the 25770.  This one was serviced, and at my request, the date shroud changed to silver, and the rubber parts black. IMO, it should have been made like this originally.

About the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Ref. 25770

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph reference 25770 represents a 42mm iteration within the Offshore Chronograph series. This reference was produced from 2002 to 2010, featuring a blue dial configuration that distinguishes it within the model range.

The 42mm stainless steel case houses the automatic caliber 2226/2840 movement, providing a 50-hour power reserve. The watch features a fixed octagonal bezel and sapphire crystal, with water resistance rated to 100 meters. The blue dial is complemented by a rubber strap, maintaining the sporty aesthetic of the Offshore series.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a substantial chronograph with modern proportions and contemporary materials. The eight-year production run from 2002 to 2010 places it within the established era of the Offshore collection, while the blue dial variant offers a specific colorway option for enthusiasts of the series. The rubber strap configuration provides a casual alternative to metal bracelet variants.

Can you explain to me what the date shroud is? I was trying to find an original 25770 picture but it appears there were different color ways. And what color were the rubber pushers before your request to change?

The black, round shroud frames the rectangular date window and serves as the base for the round “cyclops” magnifier. The original pushers and crown were dark blue.

That strap configuration is awesome. Thanks for sharing! Peter

I decided to go silver on the date shroud to blend it better. Black on the rubber crown and pushers seemed like a no brainer.

More rare than the LE End of Days, by a lot. I used to have access to some inside information, most of which I was told "do not share". But the big man himself allowed me to share the production number on this special 25770.
