Quattro introduces the Andersen Genève Communication 45, a limited-edition Worldtimer commemorating 45 years of the brand's founding. This article delves into the watch's intricate design, artisanal craftsmanship, and the historical lineage tracing back to Svend Andersen's original 1990 Communication 24 Worldtimer.

Svend Andersen, a revered figure in independent watchmaking, established Andersen Genève in 1980 after a distinguished career at Patek Philippe's complications department. His atelier became a hub for bespoke creations and highly complex mechanisms, particularly worldtimers. The Communication series, including the Communication 45, represents a significant chapter in his oeuvre, building upon his earlier innovations like the "Jour et Nuit" and "Mundus" models. These watches were conceived to offer a sophisticated yet intuitive display of global time, a hallmark of Andersen's philosophy of blending traditional horology with practical utility for the discerning traveler.
The Andersen Genève Communication 45 Worldtimer is distinguished by its intricate dial architecture and robust worldtime complication. The central feature is a meticulously rendered, often hand-engraved or textured, map of the continents, here presented in a rich golden hue, providing a striking visual anchor. Surrounding this is a rotating 24-hour ring, segmented for day and night, which synchronizes with an outer fixed ring displaying 24 reference cities across the globe. This arrangement allows for instantaneous reading of time in any of the listed zones. The substantial 45mm gold case, with its elegant stepped bezel and distinctive teardrop lugs, houses an automatic movement, likely a highly modified base caliber, ensuring precise and reliable timekeeping across multiple meridians.
As a product of an independent atelier, the Andersen Genève Communication 45 Worldtimer occupies a unique and highly coveted position within the luxury watch market. Production numbers are inherently limited, making each piece a rare find for collectors. These watches appeal to enthusiasts who appreciate haute horlogerie beyond mainstream brands, valuing the artisanal craftsmanship, bespoke detailing, and the personal touch of a master watchmaker like Svend Andersen. Its blend of complex mechanics, distinctive aesthetic, and the prestige of its independent provenance ensures its enduring appeal and strong collectibility among those seeking horological pieces with genuine character and historical significance.
I had made an enquiry last week on the Asia dial version and await a response. I love the lugs and size of the case. I wish the watch was also offered in white gold or better still, stainless steel!
I personally like the YG case a lot, but of course I understand your preference for white metals. Best, Emmanuel PS: have you seen the Americas dial?
But I only have an affinity to Europe and Asia
Out of curiosity, I would just like to see this third dial.
Have you ordered one now?
but this is another consideration
