It is unfortunate...
But true that only a few watch brands maintain their value well. The ones for the next generation and the superlative ones for sure. But not that many more. Still, sometimes one misses interesting horology if resale potential is the main driving force. And if the entry price point is right the later hit may not be so severe 
As for Chopard, if you want to keep the watch for a while you will not regret it. They are slowly working on getting where you want by doing all the right things (like investing in a fantastic after sales service), plus the watches are both under the radar and very, very nice
