Past couple of days, came across a catchy study reported in Reuters - "Chicks dig hot cars"
. Debatable but seems to hold some truth by observations. Perhaps the
word 'Hot' should be substituted with Fast, and that reminded me of
this year Chopard Classic Racing SuperFast Chrono with the 'hot', fast
or lighting split.
For friends and fans of the
On the left, the first Chopard Classic Racing SuperFast Chrono issued in 2009 for F1 Singapore, followed by the 2010 Edition.
Now for the 2011 Classic Racing SuperFast Chrono Split ....
Steel case with DLC of imposing diameter 45mm and 15.4mm thick. Rated water-resistance to 100m.
Limited to production quantity of 1000 pieces.
Integrated
strap connecting seamlessly to the casing. Two options available, with
either the iconic 1960s Dunlop Racing tyre-read motif rubber strap or
the calf leather strap with folding clasp.
An interesting feature is the pointer-type date display in a subdial at 3H instead of typical cut-out window.
The sub-dial functions were subtly marked, only the small second at 9H was not described.
The red-hand with arrow-tip is the running Chrono-Second, while the White is the split-second.
Anti-reflective coated sapphire crystal, superbly reduced glare and allow quite a comfortable large viewing angle.
The design for the whole SuperFast is inspired from vintage racing cars with a more contemporary twist.
Grooves
engraved on the sides shaped like the cooling vents and the Allen
screws on the bezel associating with the fasteners used on wheel rims...
To
time two events which start together, activate Chronograph as usual
with the pusher at 2H. Both the red sweep-second hand and the white
split-second hand superimposed and run simultaneously.
To stop white split-second hand, engage the pusher at 8H moulded in red rubber. The red hand will continue running.
Depressing the pusher at 2H stops the
sweep-second hand.
Two measurements are thus visible – with the minutes
and hours read off on counters at 12H and 6H.
To reset both hands, depress the pusher at 5H.
Crown
protectors flanking the screw-down crown with the racing steering-wheel
in DLC blackened steel is the rubber-molded to be consistent with the
chrono-pushers and also for easy gripping.
The opposite side with the contrasting red rubber-molded split-second pusher ...
Careful
observation of the case, alternate gloss and brushed polishings were
used to give the case a better contrast and beautiful lines at different
viewing angles.
A relief was created on the thick solid caseback for easy unscrewing of the crown for time adjustment.
Solid caseback with fin-like engraving containing the COSC certified Lajoux-Perret 8721.
I think this year SuperFast Chrono Split is one of the best looking Chopard's Racing watches.
As we know, black watches are generally really stunning when they are clean and yet they are magnet to ugly smudges too.
Strangely, the SuperFast Chrono Split looks equally attractive when stained. More rugged and macho too.
Should look and pair well with even jeans (torn) as well as business attire. Versatile!
Do you like it?
