For the time-only Gran Turismo XL Alfa Romeo, the movement is a Valgranges A07.111 which supposedly to wind in a single-direction.
Referencing Orbita's database, the setting to use should be : Base ETA Valgranges, CW , 800 TPD.
Regardless of brands, the base-movement is the determinant. You could try to wind in single direction starting with clockwise direction.
Personally, I will not use a winder except for perpetual calender.
