Diamonds on watches
Throughout history, pocket watches have been gem-set with precious stones and pearls.
However, in modern times with Gents' wristwatches, we did not see many bezels set with diamonds.
I guess Chopard was a pioneer of series production bezel gem setting in the 1970s and 1980s when Middle Eastern and Far Eastern men started being luxury consumers.
Fixed gemsetting on the dial could be done by any competent jeweller but freely moving 'dancing' diamonds was a Chopard innovation in 1976.
Sandwiched between two panes of sapphire glass, the Happy Diamonds technology celebrates its 40th anniversary this year!
When you see the Chopard designs of the era, you can see many reproductions by contemporaries and also modern reinterpretations.
Cuff watches and stone dials as well as the re-use of denim for the dial.
