Chopard Mille Miglia Race Edition production numbers

asonstuf,

Chopard Mille Miglia race Edition production policy has changed over the years.

The primary rule is that Mille Miglia race competitor watch numbers are dependent on the number of actual racing competitors each year and are NOT included in the production numbers. The number of race entries is between 400 - 440 usually.

The competitor watch numbering is specific to the racing number of the car. By definition, they are more "prestigious" only because they mean that the owner was a competitor. If you were not a competitor, the watch has no special meaning except if you bought it from a racer who wore it.

Be careful as sometimes the production Mille Miglia Race Edition has a better movement inside than the complimentary competitors' version.

In the early years of Chopard sponsorship (1988 - 1996) the souvenirs were only for competitors (mostly wristwatches, cuff links in 1992, pocket chronograph in 1990, key-ring in 1989).

In 1997, for the first time and separately from the competitors' watches, a Mille Miglia Race Edition was available for public sale.

Between 1997 - 2014, the number of Mille Miglia Race Edition watches matched the year e.g. 2000 watches in 2000 A.D.

Sometimes, precious metal versions in smaller numbers were made but they were not considered that year's Race Edition.

From 2015, Mille Miglia Race Editions have been issued as 1000 pieces in base metal (steel or titanium) and 100 pieces in rose gold or two-toned. This is because Chopard recently sponsors more races like Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, Vintage Rally Weekend of Moscow and Porsche Motorsport World Endurance Racing so other racing editions are produced concurrently to make up the numbers.
