Great article SJX - enjoyed the read. More importantly, ID One
heralds the arrival of Cartier as a manufacture with a R&D capability second to none. While the ID One is a concept piece, the research embodied therein will find its way into the everyday pieces. However, to me, it would be a pity not to introduce such a watch to market. I think it looks elegant and yet futuristic - perhaps the very nature of what is Cartier haute horologie.
Thanks and hopefully one day I will get to see the watch for myself.

I like and admire the concepts and ideas but
truth be told I think the resulting wristwatch, albeit the only one made, is not my cup of tea. The Ballon Bleu case with the cabouchon on the crown just doesn't lend itself to this styling IMHO. - SJX

would be when the various concepts used in it find their way into the entry Santos Galbee or Tank Francaise and the resulting movement is reliable. - SJX

If the mechanical watch moves too close to being 'perfect', then what happens to the idea of the luxury watch? What of the history, heritage etc? Will it become the Swiss equivalent of Seiko Spring Drive? - SJX

to be evaluated under real world conditions. Also might you need that entire movement the way it is designed to achieve the <1 sec/day? And why have there been on one of those made?
